WGA is a pain in the butt for many of us. Even if we have a legal copy of windows it just makes us do things we don’t want to. So here is a solution for all you WGA haters out there :
1. Download Orca (remember to disable your pop-up blocker when on that page) and install it.
2. Open WindowsDefender.msi with Orca
3. Go to the “CustomAction” table on the left
4. Right-click on the “CHECK_WGA” action and select “Drop Row”
5. Now got to “Dialog” table on the left
6. Look for the dialog “CheckWGA”, change the Attribute from 2 to 0
7. File > Save (DO NOT use Save As…)
8. Close Orca and run the installer.
That’s it! Worked for you? Do drop us a line.
Update:
A person named Alex on another blog has found a solution to the recent patch up Microsoft made to disable this, well its back again and works like a charm!
The new Windows Defender is out, the way to bypass the WGA check (at least the one I found) is to open the MSI with Orca. Click Control Event on the left and go to CheckWGA. Make sure that the Argument column of the first and second CheckWGA Dialogs is ?LicenseAgreement? and you can install and use Windows Defender without problems.
Kudos to ken for the update.

Latest WindowsDefender.msi requires Windows Installer 3.1, which in turn requires WGA validation.

It still can’t beat the reg file patch. Download the a simple 3 kb reg file from http://www.yousendit.com/trans.....XWozFwoxM= and double click on it to merge it into registry and you are done.
Install whatever you want without any complications. This worked for IE7 install for me.

Microsoft found a way to check against one/
If you modify the .MSI it will no longer install and simply spit out an error.
Download the latest Windows Defender (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/d/0/ed099d5e-dc60-4740-8747-1c72f053b800/WindowsDefender.msi) and try it out yourself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Found a solution to this (not mine), I confirm that this works with the latest version of Windows Defender as at 1 November 2006.
Open Windows Defender in Orca, open the ControlEvent table, then go to the InstallWelcome dialog, and change the one that has the event CheckWGA to LicenseAgreement. This makes the Welcome page skip the WGA page completely, and go straight to the license page.

Kindly disregard my other post…i have resolved it by just turning Automatic Updates on..it seems Windows Defender works hand in hand with Automatic updates..after updating you have the option to turn it off to avoid those annoying WGA pop-ups.

But i think this method works only if you already have the executable files from the programs you want to install.
It doesn?t allow windows to bypass the microsoft pages in order to download the files you want.

First of all, I’d like to thank all engineers for all the effort they have putted in. I think that’s something that you cannot say too often…
I’m afraid that the method as it is explained on haklabs (even Alex’s method) is not working anymore, at least it isn’t working at my version of Windows Defender.
When I open the .msi in Orca, and click in the left table under the ControlEvent tables, the first InstallWelcome argument from isn’t CheckWGA. (instead it is already LicenceAgreement)
Is anybody experiencing the same difficulties with the new Windows Defender or is it just that I am doing something terribly wrong? (I have worked with Orca before so…)

These tricks only patch Windows and also they aren`t 100% truthful. You have to fix basic problem: your CD-key is banned or not valid. To fix this problem you have to change CD-key. Thatway I have posted 4 tools to make your Windows GENUINE. yeah…im actually having problems installing orca….
its says an error occurred during installation… and it wont go on, i’ve tried , first complete installation, then typical and afterwards custom, and still won’t work.
any suggestions?

Should be interesting to see the result, i haven’t needed to install sp2 for some time,
Just recently redone a system and unfortuantely hitting every WGA error in the book, managed to get media player 9 installed for the dvd, but think i will update to WMP11 now, if the above works for me.
For those having difficulty it can be down to a whole host of things, but for me, installing an early edition of XP always appears to be the best option, since when you get all the updates etc, it bans the majority of reverse engineering, since of course microsoft spend millions for people to surf these sights and work a bypass!
i wish every one the very best with success, and can’t wait for my SP2 to download on my 56.6 connection, haha old school!
will update when it is done to let you know what worked as of 24th september 2007
