I just bought one of these:

I paid $52 including shipping; it's 512mb. I got it yesterday at 3pm and I've already misplaced it three times. In fact, if it weren't in the back of my box right now, I'm not sure if I'd know where it was. THAT's why you see those lamers wearing them around their neck.

They are VERY useful. I got the one that plugs into the rubber ducky. Not like the duck was needed but pretty cool to have a red rubber ducky with horns on your desk. It was swarmed months ago

What do you need it for, anyway? Nah. You think I would dare drop $50 on hardware without being researching it first?
Need? Haha. Who needs something like this? It's mostly a fun toy. Also, I do a bit of consulting, and it's handy to be able to bring this thing around and run shit off it without having to painstakingly find and download them over whatever shitty connection the client has. It's super fuking fast, way faster than a CD.
Also, I seem to be cursed with a lot of legacy laptops that always have USB but are missing a CDROM drive or connector cable, or need a pre-cardbus pc card and then I gotta dig through all my shit. This is easier.
Did I mention how fuking fast it was?
Also, I'd really like to get the whole run-Firefox-off-a-flash-drive thing so that until roaming profiles are stable, I could run all my browser shit off a single chunk of memory -- except that it's not going to work from Win32 to Linux, which is what I'd need.

Can you boot off a flash device like that, it would come in handy in lieu of a rescue disk.

LORDKAHUNA: Can you boot off a flash device like that, it would come in handy in lieu of a rescue disk. Yep -- if the machine supports booting from USB.
