Sure, I might be "just too fucking stupid to live" (thanks Vas!) but I think I could run this goddamned country better than the current president.

I edited just to try to stay within accetable limits of insult (I hope). No offense Clavis, I was just following through with the Zombie idea. We may have disagreements, but I think you are a very intelligent fellow.
In any case, that took far less time than a prolonged diatribe that was pretty cleanly summed up in the Slashdot post anyway. |

ahem.Crackalackin - 'It's on, bitches . I am short on time now, but tonight/tomorrow the conversation will pick up in the forums thread.'
LOki - Ok. But when you do, make sure you reconcile this:
Crackalackin - 'I am not a JKOS robot.'
AND
Crackalackin - 'Quite frankly, I don't care _what_ specifically Kerry will do.'
LOki - Domo arigato, in advance, Mr. Roboto. Clavis makes an excellent point -- thanks for someone else's lame BUSHSUX robot argument anyway.

Sure! Since you seem to have missed it, I'll reconcile it with my own words from the same post:
Crackalackin: Nowhere do I suggest that JK is our savior.
On the other hand, I do think that Bush is our doom.
Also:
(a) I am not a robot, this opinion is my own;
and
(b) If I were not human, it is so much better to be a rational robot than a mindless zombie.
It's really quite hypocritical for a Bush zombie to label someone else a robot after their own brains were washed out by the administration's propaganda machine.
It's such a typical tactic: taking your own immoral course of action or thought, or fallacy, and labelling the other guy with it. Other examples: "bias of the liberal media" (while conservative ClearChannel owns majority), "unpatriotic thinking" (i.e. going against own greedy motivations), "ecological irresponsibility" (read: leave Antarctica the fuk alone, drill oil in ass you clown), "lack of concern for education" (in reality, ensuring that idiotic reforms don't fuk up kids lives), etc etc
I hope you can see that it's a completely dishonorable tactic, though.

I'm not a SlashDot fan but the article makes a couple of good points.
Neither candidate is going to allow himself to be publicly asked any questions that really matter to most people.
If by some miricle the questions do get asked there is no chance that either one would give a straight answer.
In any case there is nothing that either candidate can say that will get any great numbers of voters to change their opinions.
At this point most of us, and the rest of the country, have made our choices.

Crackalakin - "It's really quite hypocritical for a Bush zombie to label someone else a robot after their own brains were washed out by the administration's propaganda machine." You are NOT really calling me this "Bush Zombie." If you are, you clearly have not read a thing I've ever wrote, and continue to be blinded by your BUSHSUXANDTHATSALLTHATCOUNTS programming.
You sir, remain the robot. Allow me to demonstrate and illustrate the differences with an example.
You make the unsupported claim that the economy under Bush sux -- consistent with your thoughtless programming.
I counter with: "The economy now is in about the same condition it was in 1996 -- when Bill Clinton was re-elected primarily due to the growing economy." You respond in perfect accord with your programming: "Your point is bullshit. The economy was doing good at Bush's inauguration. We're in the slums now." Nothing to support your assertion -- just bullshit.
I reply to you with verifiable facts. Here are just two:Income growth (after taxes, infaltion adjusted, first term):
1996 - $1,256
2004 - $1,444
Debt as percentage of GDP:
1996 - 48.5%
2004 - 37.5% Your response? LOki must be a Bush Zombie.
Ridiculous!
I will still assert that you are a JKOS Robot despite this: "Nowhere do I suggest that JK is our savior." Because it does not address this defining statement: "Quite frankly, I don't care _what_ specifically Kerry will do." And this: "On the other hand, I do think that Bush is our doom." Is nothing more than saying "BUSHSUX" one more fuking time without an attempt to establish exactly WHY any alternative candidate, let alone Kerry is a better option.
And to top it off you say this, "It's such a typical tactic: taking your own immoral course of action or thought, or fallacy, and labelling the other guy with it. " and then label ME the hypocrit.
BRAVO! I applaud you sir.

First, I will dispense with the name calling. From now on, it wil just be arguments. I ask you to do the same.
LOki: You are NOT really calling me this "Bush Zombie." If you are, you clearly have not read a thing I've ever wrote, and continue to be blinded by your BUSHSUXANDTHATSALLTHATCOUNTS programming.
See, that's the problem. How do you know it's programming? Why do you insist that it is not my own opinion that was formed long, long before any of the crap hit the fan, which is really the case?
LOkiI counter with: "The economy now is in about the same condition it was in 1996 -- when Bill Clinton was re-elected primarily due to the growing economy."
What is your point exactly? That this administration is good because it set us 10 years back in terms of economic growth, and therefore deserves reelection? Bravo, my friend, THAT makes sense.
LOki
I reply to you with verifiable facts.
"Verifiable facts" in my book come from arguments that state their sources. But even then, many summary reports are full of, errm, exaggerations -- like using fast food workers and working children (the latter typically excluded), to pad the employment records (THAT didn't happen three months ago, did it?).
Moving on...
LOki Here are just two: Income growth (after taxes, infaltion adjusted, first term):
1996 - $1,256
2004 - $1,444
Debt as percentage of GDP:
1996 - 48.5%
2004 - 37.5%
What is your point, exactly? You state averages and expect them to be good indicators of common well-being? You must then not be much of a statistician. The devil is in the details of the second-order and distributional statistics.
Instead, I challenge you to plot the CDF of the income. You will see that the income figure is inflated because the top ~5% of the richest (which also account for ~85% of total wealth) got the biggest gains at the expense of the middle and lower class. Yes, the average salary is higher, because the CEOs and other moguls are fatter, but the everyone else is hurting. I can see it with my own eyes and hear it with my own ears, and I happen to leave in the East Coast where jobs are crackalackin. So, if you think the economy is doing well you should snap out of the miracle la-la land and take a good look around you.
Debt as a percentage of GDP? First of all, do you know what GDP is? Here's a brief definition: economists measure the economy as GDP and GDP equals spending and only spending on NEW goods and services. While the GDP is a probably the best economic INDICATOR available it is just an indicator. You can be mired in debt, you could be selling off your house your car, your 401k (and anything else that does not count as a new good or service), but as long as you are spending money on new stuff the GDP (and the world of economists) would say that you are doing fine.
Basically, your statistic says that, even though the amount of spending grew, the amount of borrowing grew WITH it proportionally. That kind of makes sense, right? We borrowed a whole shitlot and spent it (not only the government, but also consumers). First, we should not have borrowed that much (and how do you justifiably go from biggest budget surplus to the biggest deficit ever?).
I leave it as an excerise for you, L0ki, to justify borrowing that much freaking money and showing where it all went. And second, now, how are we going to pay all of this back? That is the heart of the problem.
LOki
I will still assert that you are a JKOS Robot despite this: "Nowhere do I suggest that JK is our savior." Because it does not address this defining statement: "Quite frankly, I don't care _what_ specifically Kerry will do." And this: "On the other hand, I do think that Bush is our doom." Is nothing more than saying "BUSHSUX" one more fuking time without an attempt to establish exactly WHY any alternative candidate, let alone Kerry is a better option.
I think it is not very clear to you that I, in fact, _can_ say that Bush blows royally without needing to say why Kerry is a lot better, and not be a JKOS Robot. Is the author of the Slashdot post a Bagel robot then? I think not. I just think there has been a plethora of bad decisions by the current administration, and there has to be change...

I agree. Anyone who starts even mildly defending Bush's economic policy is ignoring the rising debt and deficit and the fact that the tax cuts are exacerbating the problem. And once again, even with the most unrealistic picture of Bush, he is by far the least popular American president in World opinion in history and there are solid, well-understood reasons for it.

Here's some empirical evidence for you.
6 years ago I had my resume on Monster.com. When you post your resume, you can see how many times a potential employer has looked at your resume. I used to get several hundred hits a month.
3 years ago I had my resume on Monster.com. After 6 months, it had gotten 97 hits. I think I took it down.
I know this isn't single-handed proof that the job market sucks -- but it does.

I agree with that. I can't say that I've found a candidate that I support.
GW and his minions have crossed a couple of my personal boundaries. I'm beyond the point of forgiving and forgetting. So I'll vote for Kerry because he has the best chance to win and at this point I'm starting to believe that any change at all will be for the better.
