I think it is really sweet that Ball and Chain would flatter you by using your writing style to attempt to intimidate others on the internet.

He must really love you! Except for the part where he drinks, eats and smokes too much, and loses internet access for threatening to kill people, I am gonna pattern MY marriage after your own.

Thanks Dumbskull!

vasudeva: That would be a nice function. In the meantime, you can type your link comment into a forum reply, and benefit from THAT preview. Then when it's all nice and pretty, copy and paste it into the link comment box.

Or? Just type real careful.

Now I may be being stupid here (it's been know to happen in the past) but aren't forum posts in BB-code and Link Comments in HTML?

If this is the case then this suggestion just wouldn't work.

Am I right or di I get a kicking?

BB code can be used in the forums, along with HTML, but it's HTML only on comments.

So if you used BB-Code and previewed it in the forums it would look OK - but if you then pasted it into a comment then it wouldn't work?

And all the handy buttons at the top of the Forum post box generate BB-Code.

...

You can't use BB code in the comments, so why would you even preview it in here?

'coz the buttons at the top generate BB-Code and not HTML.

So for them as what don't know HTML what looks good (with bold and quotes and images etc.) in the forum post preview would look crap in the comments if copied and pasted.

I might be being too fussy now, but I would like a preview option for the comments if possible.

Seeing as how this is already something of a thinker's trick, it might be best if the person jewing around in the forum preview in the prescribed manner simply remembered *not to click the BB code shit.*

Apart from that, link comment preview has been high on my list of things to do for a very long time.

While you are at it, how about a time and date clock on the home page somewhere so the rest of us know when it is over there?

Look at the bottom of every page.

Page Generation: 0.229 Seconds at 9:37:25 am

I suppose I should add EST to the end of that.

Can the date format on the forum postings be changed from DD/MM/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY?

And change the timestamp to "regular" EST time instead of "military" time.

That shit's in your profile. Click the Profile Link up top to edit.

I've set mine to MM/DD/YY, and 12-hour format, so your post looks like this to me: 10/6/2004 at 09:27 AM

Just thought of 1 thing - in Your Account could you have a list of links you jave posted but haven't yet been looked at by Vas (or whoever else vets them). And preferably a chance to withdraw, or modify them.

I've posted quite a few links recently quite late at night whilst drunk and extremely tired. I'm sure I've posted some of them 2 or 3 times - but that could just be my imagination (or just Alzheimers kicking in ;-). Also I think I've posted some complete crap as well - seemed like a good idea at the time but when you find that page in your History the next day you think "Hmmm!!"

Also some sort of Queue Monitor would be nice - so you can see what's happening there. I'm sure that Vas is under pressure these days to keep on top of all the submissions he gets as the number of Swarmers is growing fast. Maybe the queue could be farmed out to the Alpha swarmers (or alternatively a democratically elected group of members) as there have been over 100 links ahead of some submissions recently.

That's a good idea. A list of the links you have still waiting approval. Dunno about editing them, though. I'll have to see.

This mystifies me, but perhaps you have missed noticing the Alpha Queue?

Don't know the technical side of how the main queue of submisions is maintained. If the links are just mailed to you and you work through them in date order then it would be hard to do. If they go into a database then either the record can be deleted or the title (and/or content) can be changed - either to improve the subitted link or to say Delete to let you know not to bother with it. As long as you can only see you own links waiting then there should be no premission problems.

As for the Alpha Queue - don't you vet them before they go into the Alpha Queue? If you have to vet them first and the number of links you are getting keeps increasing then that's why there are so many links ahead of a submision these days (currently 91).

I was wondering whether the size of linkswarm is getting towards unmanageable - currently 7309 registered swarmers. If they all post links (which most of them don't ) then it would be a full-time job working through them - especially as they will be posted at different times and from different timezones. If that's the case then a team effort from people who operate in different timezones might help.

Yeah. In most cases, the links in the Alpha Queue are pre-approved for goodness. A link in the AQ has two possible destinies: Approval (regular frontpage link) or Rejection (only Alphas see it).

I was wondering whether the size of linkswarm is getting towards unmanageable - currently 7309 registered swarmers.
Nah, it's not the fact that there's 7000+ LS users that keep the queue filled. It's a mixture of Swarmer enthusiasm and admin laziness.

Besides, if most of those 7000 were hanging around on a regular basis, wouldn't you see a lot more participation from unfamiliar faces? I have a theory that there exists a certain type of human who just enjoys signing up at websites and then fuking off to find a new site to sign up at.

If they all post links (which most of them don't ) then it would be a full-time job working through them - especially as they will be posted at different times and from different timezones.
It almost is a full-time job -- or could be, if I didn't stop myself -- and link approval is actually a pretty small part of it. Fixing shit that breaks, making sure shit isn't broken, and general development make up the bulk of the work.

If that's the case then a team effort from people who operate in different timezones might help.
Check out the FAQ. There are 7 admins.

Unfortunately, a surprising number of them are homosexual fagg0ts who prefer hunting for and feasting on little boy ass to actual administrative functions. (NB: I'm not counting the bunny.)

The Alpha Queue seems to be working out. I'm putting more and more faith in it as a system to help offset the task of link approval. It may be that in time I'll dip into the pool of Alphas to promote one or two lucky little boys and/or girls to full Admin status. To paraphrase my jackass avatar, "some people call you the elites; I call you my base." (A lie.)

If that really is the bulk of your work then hats off to you - I've never yet (touch wood) had a problem accessing Linkswarm or with any part of it not working (apart from the occasional broken link which is only to be expected). You're doing a great job - keep it up.

Moving on to a different, older topic :-
Check out the FAQ. There are 7 admins.

6 of them seem to be regularly active - but what has happened to KHz? I PM'd him a while ago (regarding my earlier obsession with the 3 little blue squares in the Linkswarm logo at the top of the page) and he never got back to me (bitch!!). And I haven't seen any links from him recently - up until today when he's just posted a link.

KHz - what are those 3 little blue squares in the Linkswarm logo **Interobang**

p.s. Vas - can you add the Interobang as a Smilie?

Your post ^^this one^^ reads 6:27 AM on my screen, but it's only 2:29 AM EST, and my system clock is right. So something seems off by about 4 hours.
