Actually...Michael Moore told people to download it. He basically just said he wants people to see his movie. He also wants to get it on TV which would negate his chances of getting it nominated for an academy award. So really Clavis, I know you wanted to sound all rebellious and shit, but you basically did what Moore asked you to do. He never said you had to believe what he says, just watch it. |

Ok, back to pointless MM arguments.
People like Moore bashing for a number of reasons, first and foremost that he looks funny (hez a chubby bastard!) and is often unconvincing in his arguments. His film-making, at least in the case of BFC, has seemed manipulative, at least at points. But as for his general points about the media, read a sociology textbook, he's no genius but he does have a general picture worked out.

Once again, what the fuck does "loving America" mean? I mean its the most subjective line of thought ever. What if you notice that a lot of what America does around the world is wrong? Now for most properly propogandized people you'd have to stop right there; because of their limited vision of the world, America CAN'T be doing anything wrong around the world.
You can call him a malcontent or whatever but if you look at the facts presented about US foriegn policy in any objective way (and that means not going through CNN, CBS, FOX, ABC or any of that) you'll find that the US does plenty of bad things around the world. Just give a shot at reading any, and I mean any, of the human rights monitoring groups (and I'm not talking about the State department report) and you'll be forced to look at some uncomfortable facts. Does talking about it mean you hate America? Would refusing to talk about it mean you love America?

Well, and I presume were focusing on F-9/11 here, what is wrong about what he said? In his books you can find all kinds of problems with citation but look at F-9/11 and you find pretty decent arguments
1) Fuked up stuff happened with election 2001. The evidence shows the election, at best, was very inaccurately counted, and at worst, flat out went to the wrong guy. Either way the decision that Bush was president was made by a 5-4 supreme court along strict party lines.
2) The WMD claim was false (especially the nukes), and in fact planners knew there was no real danger of it, the war was based on other factors. If you doubt this I, or anyone who looks, can work up MOUNDS of citation and evidence about it.
3) The Saudi connection. Its well documented the connection between Bush and the Saudis. It makes sense to think that there is a conflict of interest there, at least to some extent. Whether its worth as much attention as he gave it, I don't know.
Note: The UNICAL pipeline stuff is accurate, but whether it was a major cause for war in Afghanistan, as Moore contended, is arguable.
4) The final, most powerful point he made was about the value of our soldier's lives and our commitment to not put them in harm's way unless we're in danger; that's just common sense, I think.
There was also a shitload of stuff about GW's vacation, lack of intelligence, that little bit in the elementary school. The one other thing is how the Bush administration is used 9/11 and national security to justify their every move. Now Moore's work is extremely slanted, no doubt about it, a lot of the imagery he uses is straight propoganda...but that doesn't effect the legitimacy of his points.
So what I'm wondering is: Can anyone come up with a convincing argument against any of his central points?

Well ... it doesn't look as though Clavis is coming back to this, so I thought I'd ask your opinions.
Who believes the official version of 9/11?
Who thinks that it's all a bit suspicious and that one or more of the conspiracy theories is true?
For me, as a keen fan of explosives since I was a kid, the controlled demolition aspect on both the World Trade Centres is so convinving I don't see how anyone can doubt it. If you ask anybody who hsa blown things up they will tell you that you need to balance the charges and timings incredibly accurately to get a neat collapse which doesn't lean to one side or the other. It's a bit far fetched that 2 planes, travelling at different speeds and from different directions, could have both resulted in such a perfectly neat and controlled collapse.
Anyone else got an opinion and is willing to share it?
