The most legitimate thing I read about it was "the New Pearl Harbor" which goes through all the things that didn't really make sense about 9/11.
It goes through the controlled demolition thing you are referring to as well as a lot of other stuff. The collapse was certainly suspicious. If anyone has ever seen a a building collapsing in on itself they know what it looks like. But the trade towers created a cloud of smog and shit that covered the whole city for days. You shoudn't get that kind of explosion from a building collapsing, you get that from an internal explosion exapanding outward. Plus there is the stuff with the steel supports being melted and twisted, which is apparently impossible for a normal fossil fuel fire.
So yeah lots of stuff is suspicious, how far I buy into it I'm not sure.

"Tinfoil hats" is a stupid fucking thing to say in the face of evidence, although I'm sure it helps you sleep at night...try Googling "The Northwoods Document." This is a real fuckin thing during the Kennedy administration where a number of scenarios were considered wherein America would stage a terrorist attack so that we could attack Cuba and garner support from the people. |

I googled "paranoid dimentia." Oh wait you spelled it wrong. If you think that the US government wouldn't do anything to harm its own people to further its goals, you're mistaken. PS the Northwoods Document is real and also evidence. It's a pretty common theory, accepted by plenty of scholars, that America may have known about Pearl Harbor and did nothing to prevent it. Notice that it didn't cripple our navy like the Japanese anticipated? Ever heard of the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam? Nowadays it's clear that we purposefully led the Vietnamese into firing on one of our ships. It's not tinfoil hat bullshit; wars are unpopular and to garner support sometimes you have to break a few eggs. I'm not saying that 9/11 was this way, but no one should be surprised if it was. |

I have heard of northwoods, and the Gulf of Tonkin is ABSOLUTELY legit. Remember Nixon's "Madman" theory? Plenty of evidence is out there that the US would stimulate terrorism to further its own ends. In fact, most intelligence experts in the Pentagon agreed that attacking Iraq would raise the chance of terrorism and destabalize the middle east. So actually there is legitimate concern that the US' aim in Iraq, apart from strategic concerns, was to stimulate further terrorism, and that is in fact exactly what has happened.
Before I ever heard of the book I had done a great deal of research into the Project for a New American Century, which is a conservative think tank for US "gloabal leadership" in this case a euphemism for "domination". Anyway in one of their internal documents they state that the US would need a "New Pearl Harbor" to attack Iraq and acomplish their agenda.
Now some of the key members of this group include Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and John Bolton and Richard Perle (both in the current administration).
So there is enough scary stuff happening outside of the conspiracy theory area. But seriously take a look at this book and tell me it didn't raise any questions.

I don't wear a tinfoil hat because I'm not worried about aliens or about anyonw reading my mind. However I am a great doubter of mass media and government as a whole.
I'm sure that a lot of honest men go into politics - I'm not sure that there are a lot of honest men in politics - and I believe that in the USA in particular (where BIG money is needed for all forms of politics beyond civil authorities - and even there it helps) corruption and dishonesty is rife.
The majority of seriously wealthy people are wealthy because they have put THEIR interests first and have been willing to do what it takes to make big money. They are not always the best people to represent YOUR interests.
The majority of less wealthy people who are mounting a serious campaign need backing. Why would those with money back those without unless there was something in it for them?
I don't doubt for a moment that there are currently, and have been in the past, people running for elected posts who have a genuine interest in doing good. However I don't think there are many who are successful who haven't compromised their beliefs in some way to get themsleves elected.
Is there anyone who believes wholeheartedly in all our politicians tell us? Is there anyone who believes that the bureaurocracy of modern government allows genuine public accountability? - something a democracy should guarantee.
Yet we all let it wash over us (myself included) because, basically, we're too lazy to do anything about it.
So fuck government, fuck worrying about whether we should suffer any guilt for what's going on in the world!
Instead let's concentrate on beer and porn. You supply the beer and I'll provide some porn

I agree - Clavis started this thread and then gave up on it after his one come-back on the 14th.
Do you think we should have a "Serious" forum? It could be like the kitchen or stairs in a house party where people accidentally clump together and eventually end up discussing music, politics and religion (normally in that order).
