The moment you've all been waiting for: the winner of the 2004 LinkSwarm T-Shirt design contest.
First off, I must say: 169 votes!? What the shit is that? Disappointing. Anyway, despite the lack of participation, and disregarding what appears to have been a fine and amusing streak of ballet-stuffing that went on for quite a bit before I stuck my finger in the hole, we have a winner!
CUBE. The people have spake. I think this would work best with the URL on front and Pinhead and related text on the back -- yes, centered, asshoels -- and smaller. Cube, we'll have to hash that out.
Combining the very few runners-up write-in choices you lazy bastards posted with our own administrative insight gives us these runners-up, in no particular order:
fl_projekt AKA fishpunchar and Jeffy the Kitten, whom we all know and love.
The LBP's subversive faux-university t-shirt, which I thought was one of the more clever entries, and good thing, too, cause this is where I get all my pussy, etc.
And finally, we have Chia's dancing elephant situation, which was a nice clean design. I think the quote could be a good bit smaller on the back and then we're golden.
Chia, you get the free Alpha account for six months, mostly because everyone mentioned above already has one. Just kidding. It's your sparkling personality. I'll send you an email in a minute and then I'll get you set up as soon as you respond.
So, to recap: Cube gets a free t-shirt of his own design (after we put our heads together for a bit and finalize it), a free gmail invite from Meta (even though I think he already has one), and a date with Meta or Marf (tough call), and chia gets six months of Alpha, and I get to find a fuking t-shirt place that doesn't suck so I can get these designs up and ready for your dollars.

Please clear some things up for me, Last i checked (I believe it was 2 hours or so before it ended) I was in second place......I know in the end, the admins most likely have the final word and can decide if a shirt that was at the top or not, makes it....I just want to know, if i WAS in second, why didn't you acknowledge it....it's not a big deal or anything, considering i could just go post at threadless.com....but at least you could have said something like "ruinedbydesign came in at second place, but we didn't like his shirt, nor him, so that's why we didn't post it" |

Thanks for posting this. I didn't want any of this to be unclear.
Did your shirt come in second? Yes and no. There IS no second place. If you look at the original thread, and the poll itself, we wanted to find out what everyone wanted as the official LS t-shirt. Additionally, since there were a couple really cool designs, I wanted to make up a few alternate shirts. These comprise the runners-up, which the admins decided on -- entirely outside of the voting system.
So the voting system was really only geared to find the top shirt. Alternates were more or less hand-picked based on their relevance to the LinkSwarm community at large, which is, after all, who these shirts and this contest were for.
Did your shirt get the second most votes in the poll? Absolutely. You got 34 and cube got 39.
P.S. If any of you out there want any shirt that isn't the winner or one of the alternates, go right ahead and message whoever made your favorite. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you the original so you could slap it on a shirt at CafePress or something.

ok ruinedbydesign. its like this...
I sat idly by and watched the little squabble that took place in the actual contest voting thread and the liink thread. I'm not terribly biased or anything. But honestly, you come off as an arrogant prick in your assessment of competing entries. What you fail to realize is that we weren't looking for some professional-grade design (which you provided), rather we wanted something that reflected "us" - such as an inside joke like Pinhead. I'm not knocking the quality of what you submitted, but judging by your overall contribution to this "community", you're not really at liberty to question the OG's around here.
I admit that I found the corey matthews thing damn funny. And the design is great, but it's not "linkswarm" to me. Thats all. I think the vote ultimately reflected what was most appropriate.

that's cool man, i assumed that the runners-up were 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on, but I was wrong, thanks for clearing it up for me though, now i won't have to lose sleep over this anymore........heh |
