alright, ----what the fuck
i have a NEW computer that is oh... 3 weeks old, XP Pro. Gateway... yeah. but here is my question::
whenever i open a IE it goes to www.thebestse.com EVERY SINGLE TIME... I CANT CHANGE IT!!! i have scanned my computer with every virusscan program i know of (norton antivirus, norton internet security, adaware, etc) and it doesnt fix anything. also whenever i try to go to google or yahoo or msn, it goes to that site! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! help me.
all i can offer in return is my soul and eternal worship, thanks.

If you think it's a browser hijacker then you can try HijackThis and/or CWShredder. Both are freeware utilities available from Merijn.org and very good they are too.
You should also switch to Mozilla because it's not full of security holes like Internet Explorer (and it's FREE!!)
Oh and for the record, the best anti-spyware programe out there is Spybot Search & Destroy (you guessed it, it's FREE too!)

Ok, I have to ask. After pulling out all the big guns... did you try going into IE and... changing the homepage? 
Let's assume you have. I was going to recommend adaware, but if you already tried that -- with an up-to-date definitions file -- you could try searching through your registry for thebestse and deleting any key that has that value in it.
And seriously? Don't run IE. Just don't. I say this all the time, enough to sound like some kind of bible thumper, but there's just no fuking reason to put yourself through the pain and heartache of IE. Download Firefox or Opera, spend an hour getting used to the new stuff, and then never again "enjoy" a pop-up or piece of spyware. There are a very few sites that I need IE for -- usually because they make use of some whizzy IE extension, and whenever I launch IE for those few sites, I run adaware immediately after. I find new spyware about once every third launch.
So. Yeah.

I was going to suggest checking the home page setting too but it seemed too obvious.
I run IE but then I admit to being an idiot at times. To keep it running I need PC DoorGuard to search for Trojans and keep the security holes closed, ADAware, Norton System Works and AVG Anti-virus ( it's free and catches a lot of stuff Norton misses)

I use IE on my shitty laptop and have gotten too many spyware and adware viruses to count. Yes, it's best to avoid it at all costs.
And some sites have an automatic little download that gets in yer system when you visit them that changes the default home page to that specific site, and you have to go up to "tools" and change it back. I was freaked out too when that first happened to me.
Just try changing the default home page, and if that doesn't work then you must call an anti-virus priest and have him excise the horrible demons from yer computar by anally raping it. |

Sure fire way to fix your browser problem.......... A. Insert boot disk B. Type "FORMAT C:" and then hit the enter key C. Type "y" and hit enter again
I myself will go with Vas on this, Use Opera. I used to run iE all the time and never think twice. I also was running all kinds of other programs to repair what iE was letting happen. Now that I use something else besides that, I have about twice as much actual porn browsing time now.
I WILL add this though........ A GATEWAY!?

yeah yeah dont worry, ive tried changing the default home page, no luck, ive tried using other sites like google (and linkswarm of course) for my homepage and whenever i press home on the toolbar or open a new browser, it takes me to that fuckin site again. anyway, i will now try all of your suggestions.

attempt #1) installed opera, typed in google.com aaaand ... thebestse.com ..shit
attempt #2) installed HijackThis ran it, got a list of about 50 things, and lo and behold, a few things that said thebestse and i deleted them. opened opera, typed in google.com, STILL goes to thebestse.. BUT! now yahoo.com and msn.com work so, there is progress. --is there anything i should be looking for? any key words or anything? im not quite sure as of what i should delete out of that list because some of the things say stuff like msnmessenger and googletoolbar and nortonantivirus and i need those things to function.--

congratulations sir.
i got tired of running adaware and spybot like every fucking day and finding tons of shit, so i installed both firefox and opera. i tend to like firefox better because of no ads for free but it wigs out sometimes.
hey vas: know of a way for firefox to retain tabs and addresses those tabs are at during time of program exit like opera? |

I seem to be in a bit of beta hell, but check out extensions Session Saver (i.e., you dumbass) and Tab Browser Extensions, both of which have related options. Let me know how it works out, cause I upgraded to Firefox .8 early and I still can't get these two bastards straight.
One particularly nice programmery note: I think after I installed Session Saver (which you have to explicitly tell it to save your session, unlike TBE which you can configure to do it automatically) instead of restoring each tab properly (of which I of course usually have 8-13 open) it would pass some sort of 'undefined' token to the location function, which would then... happily load "undefined" as a URL. Every goddamn page would open up to undefined.cc which is some techie blog thing. That bastard got a lot of free traffic from me.
