went to another castle today at Beynac. It's the opposing castle to the one at castlenaud that i previously posted and was manned by the british. it's smaller but more robust and less fancy compared to the french one.

in the exterior shots, if you notice black specs, it's some of the thousands of small birds (sparrows?) that were flocking around and clinging to the castle walls

I decided to take out the father inlaw's mountain bike yesterday afternoon for a ride for the first time personally in years. it seemed a great idea, iit was bright sunshine, and when out in the car everything seemed pretty flat as we're near the dordogne river. I found out later that I'd cycled 32k, and that actually the local landscape isn't flat at all according to my sore muscles and ass. took a few photos too.

dagwood: Alright man, how many fucking posts does it take to turn the page?
about 30 if i counted right, point kind of taken, maybe i'll limit pics per post, but content heavy threads are good, no? is there an option to reverse the thread direction like in the camphone thread, or is that an admin only thing?
anyway, we've had some pretty heavy storms rolling in from the pyrenees so clouds have been big.

this is the "lantern de mort", a huge monument type building that no one really knows what its for, with no records or depictions.

So i'm currently on a 2 week vacation in the south of france staying at the in-laws. local scenery is fairly impressive, lots of cliffs formed from volcanic activity, forests, wide rivers. lots of chateau's and castles left over from the hundred years war. also lots of prehistoric human sites.
the weather is good, really clear skies, being miles from any major population is good for looking at the stars

roque la gageac, a village built into the bottom of some cliffs that have some neolithic caves half way up them as well

half way up the cliff checking out the caves

bastide de domme, old fortified town, was also the place where the knights templar were kept locked up awaiting their trial after being screwed over by the french king. there's some old templar graffiti but didnt bother paying to see it, wouldnt have been able to take photos of it anyway.

town gate
ye olde toilet and church

the castle at castelnaud, pretty big thing, lots of old war machinery, catapaults, trebuchets etc..

some wicked looking guns and stuff

the view

huge cannon

big lizard back at the house.

more to come as holiday progresses

last few from the hike up to the mining pit, and a few from trip to plymouth, where all you american pig-dogs ancestors left from.
gorse bush, the bane of my fucking life when out walking, sharp and tough as fuck, can seriously hurt and maim if you fall on it.

this cocky fucker sat watching me long enough to change lenses and settings and get closer to take a few shots. if i'd had a rifle it would have been food.

couple of stiched panoramic shots and thats the last hike shots.

wierd fish statue by the mayflower steps

where people can sit a dream about sailing off to america

where people can play and dream about swimming to america

where people can jump and dream about diving to america

where people can... also just up by the lighthouse is where sir francis drake famously dissed the spanish armada by finishing his game of bowling before he went and kicked their asses

(wide angle lens distortion a go go)
the rest are just snapshits
some random nice building hurr

not sure what a plane would be doing underwater...

nurrr nurr nurr nurr nurr

this guy was pretty cool, all swimming around in a tank of sharks and not giving a fuck

thats pretty much it. got an air show to go to next week, so should get some nice shots of some helicopters and fighter planes new and old to show off. (although weather forecast is fucking dismal)

went back to the abandoned house but it had been burned out, so hiked up to the top of the mining tips. its late so only the first few are done being processed. went out too late so by the time i got there sun had pretty much set, but the light was kind of good for all of 10 minutes.

more to come later. it's late and I'm up early for a trip to the national aquarium, so more landscape stuff to come, and then, FISH

I was going to ask you how the hell you were getting the HDR look to your photos. The creepy, rolling clouds you seem to constantly capture really works well with that effect.
Have you set up some sort of Flickr account?

nurglets: mundhra: fucking sweet stuff, man.
do you use any filters when shooting?
cheers. sometimes I use a graduated neutral density filter to balance out sky and foreground exposure values, but recently been playing with layering differently exposed shots and balancing the correctly exposed bits by erasing under/over exposed bits. using filters is easier, or actually using an hdr program to do it automatically which i do now and again, but its hard to get a decent result without it looking like an overcooked piece of shit with them.
