Since upgrading to my new 50" HD Plasma and getting hooked up with DirecTV HD-DVR, I've been convinced that this shit rocks the fuck out.

I want to replace my old and crappy DVD player to Blu-Ray and am looking at the Sony systems. It looks like the prices are starting to creep down.

Anyone have one or any suggestions on which one to buy? Also, should I wait a couple months or do you think the prices are going to stay pretty stable for the time being?

I also want a remote that can be programmed by PC to control anything. I haven't had any experience with these either. Anyone?

Want.

Get a PS3 just for the blu-ray player because its almost the same price as the stand alone players.

As for the remote get a logitech harmony. This one was on sale for $40 last week.

Very recently Walmart had a blue ray promo where you got $100 walmart gift card with purchase of ANY blue ray, including the PS3, Target does the same thing occasionally, only offering $50 gift card in lieu of a hundo. Keep your eyes peeled for that sunday print ad and help contribute to the decay of our economy by shopping at Walmart.

PS3 is def the way to go dude. I have one and it is awesome. You really have to ask yourself though if the picture is any better on a lot of the films. Seems like so many of them (30 days of night, 300 etc.) have a lot of grain introduced in intentionally and thogh the picture is good, it's kind of like "meh" after a few movies and plus the prices of the discs suck

You should get the PS3 bluetooth remote though which is nice. on the downside for a home theater set up, there aren't any cheap unoversal bluetooth/infrared combo remotes, so you won;t be able to use a universal remote for all your home theater components, since they probably operate on infrared and theres no PS3 infrared port. Well, that's the drawback. (Don't laugh, I used to work in an electronics store)

I'm watching this development closely.

Still not sure which way to go but I definitely think I should wait until just before, or after, Christmas on this one. I think all of these prices are going to drop in a big way at the end of the year.

I can wait a bit longer.

With the amount of money that sony is losing this generation (3.3 bil) on the PS3, it is not likely that a further PS3 price drop will happen. It will likely be several financial quarters after Christmas if it does happem. The xbox 360 will drop in price again before that, but the hardware at least is profitable. Sony just cant do it. Their value proposition already outweighs the xbox (even with a higher price tag). I honestly don;t foresee the prices dropping again, until at least well after Microsoft's next 360 prioce cut. Just my 2 cents though.
