I've come to rely on RSS in a big way -- like bookmarks but you actually use them. Even better, you don't even have to 'use' them -- just eyeball a window every so often and see sup.
In particular, some of these are excellent ways to find good stuff to swarm.
LinkSwarm and pals...
- LinkSwarm.com Duh
- LinkSwarm Link Comments
- LinkSwarm Forum Shite
- LinkSwarm Journal Shite
- upload.linkswarm.com Uploads
- upload.linkswarm.com/cam Only camphone uploads
- Slashdot If something's made it onto Slashdot, it's by definition about 3 days old and everyfuckingwhere else already -- this is like my anti-swarm notification
- Hacker News This place is tits, but probably only for dorks
Finance shit...
- The Big Picture I like this guy a lot
- Lenny Dykstra This is intriguing and awaits me finding the balls
- I Will Teach You To Be Rich (Disclaimer: So far I have not actually become rich, YMMV apparently)
- fortuitous
- Fortune Watch
Local news...
- News Channel 9: Local News Laughably bad writing but kind of interesting to keep an eye on things
- News 8 Austin Top Stories Speculating, trying to get a feel for this place
Ruby/Rails development...
- Ruby Inside Kind of the main Ruby update blog as far as I can tell
- Err the Blog This guy has cool shit
- RubyFlow
- has_many :through
- O'Reilly Ruby
- Planet Caboose
- Ryan's Scraps - Blog Rails updates
- codablog
- RubyForge New Releases
- Emad Ibrahim .NET, intriguing yet odd
General Tech...
- MySQL Performance Blog Imperfect English but neat edgy MySQL stuff
- Mibbit updates I love Mibbit and wish I had written it
- M-x all-things-emacs Emacs blog, I wish I had time to pay attention to it
- Spiteful.com
- Tom Moertel's Weblog
- david - Home
- Michael Gray - Graywolf SEO Blog
- Shoemoney - Skills To Pay The Bills
- Threadwatch.org - Marketing and Technology Discussed
Other general...
- Rands In Repose This guy fucking rocks
- War Nerd
- Monsterbrains Fucked-up image blog thing
- Releaselog | RLSLOG.net Warez releases
- Unfogged Sorta higher-brow liberalish group blog; I swarm shit from here shamelessly sometimes
- Who is IOZ?
Now that I look at it, there aren't as many general news feeds as I thought. If you know something cool or useful I missed, post it here.
Otherwise, post your feeds here.
(Yes, all 2 of you that use RSS.)

I've been making use of FF3's live bookmarks thing to keep an eye on some internets. I like it because you can keep a few in your bookmarks toolbar and then just hit them every so often -- it doesn't feel like you're slacking off, but of course you are.
Even though it's now the 21st century, I'm still not sure that RSS feeds are the best way to consume the internet, although I have to say that I'm checking the BBC news feed (http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml) and the Ars Technica one (http://feeds.arstechnica.com/arstechnica/BAaf) several times a day and finding them useful in the 'live bookmark' format. I think that I've been turned off RSS in the past because you tend to run a standalone feed reader and then it autoupdates diligently and becomes like a second web browser that you actually have to keep referring to or it'll leave you behind - at least that's been my experience.

What are peoples favorite readers? Do you just use your browser? Or do you use a stand alone app like lefen?
I use my BlackBerry, but haven't found a reader I love for it. |

I think most people use a standalone, like any other tool that requires yet another desktop app. I don't think most complain about this except for wierd UK types.
On my Blackberry, I used to use mini Opera's RSS feeds feature and now use mobile Google Reader.
For regular, I use an irssi plugin so RSS is just another IRC window. Indispensable.

I use FF Live Bookmarks on my computer, and Viigo for my Blackberry.
When I get some time, I'll post some of my fave feeds.

Dare I ask if you know of a windows equivalent?

Honestly, it was a surprise to me too, and I'm an irssi evangelist.
Sexninja and Wrecker will both appreciate me volunteering them as irssi-on-Windows support dicks.
