For the past 4 months when I click the IE icon it takes about 5 seconds to do anything. Same for FireFox. If It comes out of screensaver or the first thing in the AM it takes almost 1 minute to do anything. I have turned off restore and scanned with Webroot and Mcaffee. Deleated the IE temp files and cookies, defragged, memory tested and scan disked. On top of this I have googled the hell out of this and nothing seems to fix this except reloading windows. Here is an example :

I've found it best to do a fresh clean install of windows about once every two years. I've not had the same problem with linux.

Man I hate to install again. I installed mine so many times I now have to call some bitch in India and sit on the phone for 45 minutes while Windows installs because I exceeded the max allowable installs I'm told. So it won't auto register anymore. Guess Saturday I'll do it.

try some sort of registry cleaner app, or from the command line type this
del c: windows system32 config system
del c: windows system32 config software
del c: windows system32 config sam
del c: windows system32 config security
del c: windows system32 config default
fucking insert backslashes into the gaps because for some fucked up reason beyond me it wont let backslashes in posts, like after this line i'm gonna type a zillion fucking backslashes, and noe will show when i post

Definitely get rid of McAfee and any BHOs that are stupid to have (toolbars? seriously? who the fuck uses these?)
Have you looked in event viewer>system for any disk read/write errors? If your bios offers a HD scan try that as well. Also check your IDE controllers to see if maybe the HD is stuck in PIO mode (slow transfer rate). Unless it's SATA of course.

Uninstalled McAffee and that didn't work. I've tried reg cleaners with no luck. I'll do the bios HD scan tonight when I'm done looking a naked bo... err porn

I've done all of this shit and nothing worked. I suppose I will reinstall Win XP an sit on the phone for an hour with some cunt in India registering my shit as I registered it so many times I have to call a hot chick with a dot on her head in India to register it :/ I wonder if I make fun of her would she still register me? if you have enough space, do a ghost partition of your fresh install with your basic programs you use and drivers installed. then, when you need to do it again, just use the ghost image, no sitting around waiting for xp prompts and shit like that.
if you're a little masochistic you can streamline an "unattended xp install disc" with your xp serial key,the right drivers and some software so you can just put the cd in and come back later to have it done for you.

On a side note. I googled linux on a windows built system with less than desirable results. On a sider not, my computer is custom built. Could I just undo/wipe out windows and run linux or do I need to make hardware changes? Windows is as reliable as my present meatslab BTW.

best way to check out hardware compatibility is to dl a live cd of your distro of choice if available (trendily now called a 'spin'). boot off the cd and you will hopefully end up into a very usable, if a wee bit slower due to cd being boot media, desktop enviroment - your windows install left untouched & unchanged. if all seems ok, and you find it usable, install away (obv back up all important music/pix/porn).
probably recommend ubuntu (although i havent had 100% success with the new release) which also features WUBI - this apparently lets you install ubuntu as a program on a windows system (havent used or checked it out at all)
have also used xandros 4.5 oce which looks similar to windows and does a good job of main hardware detection and setup, but peripherals can keep you in your seat for a while.
