Long story short. A buddy has a trophey/plack shop and his computer skills are so bad he can't play PC games. FOR REAL! What is a decent picture editing program? Today he asked to do some shit and I tried with what windows has to offer and I might drive him out of business. I have Limewire if need be. I tried Adobe Photoshop 7.0. But it wont take a color image and make it black and white. Also the image is small
and I can't get by the pixelazation problem when I enlarge it. Please help me and keep the fucker off of welfare

you can convert a color image to b&w in pshop. go to image>mode> then pick greyscale or bitmap.

as for enlarging without pixelazation, that's going to happen in any program as long as your using any file with pixels. download a program called vector eye. it converts bitmaps (jpgs, gifs) to infinitely scalable vectors (eps-numbers, no pixels). one of the best i have found. takes some getting used to, but once you master it, it;s a great program.

You can try Paint.net

About
Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins.
It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool. It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP.
The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality. The source code is available under the terms of the MIT License.

Also, give GIMPshop a spin. It's similar to Photoshop, but it's free.

any luck so far? photoshop can be daunting, but imo is the best image editor. once you figure out the menu system (where shit is) and terms (what shit means), then its pretty easy to do simple things to images.

the logo you provided was just way too small to work with, even with vector based shit, i even downloaded an industry plugin that is supposed to be able to resize images upto 1000% with no quality loss, but it needs some detail to begin with and that shit had none, so a quick google image search brought up:

and a little tweaking (like 3 steps) sorted it to this:

literally, step by step all i did was (using the menu system)

1. file>open (i then used the crop tool on the side bar to get rid off the waffle underneath)
2. image>adjustments>desaturate (turns black and white)
3. image>adjustments>brightness/contrast (fiddled to look better)
4. image>image size (changed measurements under document size to 15cm width, with the constrain proportions box checked)
5. file>save as

hope i wasnt too late to help, photoshop may look complicated, but it really isnt too bad. its harder for me to use GIMP as i'm so used to PS now.

I used the paint.net program and it worked the easiest. Although I got some good names for limewire to download and check them out when I get in from San Jose. Thanks guys for the help. My Yugoslavian friend has avoided welfare again with the help of Linkswarm.

I'm gonna put my two cents in about this.

First of all, if you are going to enlarge a small jpeg, using an enlargement programs is just a half-ass solution. If you have a small jpeg and the artwork needs to be resized, it's unprofessional to suggest a program that sort of does a good job. The artwork should be clean and formatted for any size requirements. If work is to be done outside of the web, it needs to be done in vector, period. Here's a vector version of th art, done in under 3 minutes.
