This show is about making meth, it stars the dad from Malcolm in the Middle, and it's on AMC on Sundays.
And it's really fucking good.
It's a dark comedy, it was created by one of the guys who did the X-Files (if I remember correctly...), and the lead actor's performance is outstanding.
He works as a high school chem teacher in New Mexico, and he moonlights at a car wash in order to support his disabled son and newly pregnant wife. He is a teacher who clearly started teaching because he loves the subject, and in one shot we see that he contributed to Nobel prize-winning research. Yet he's at a place where his life seems to be dead ending. He's kind of a pussy, he struggles to support his wife and kid, he's getting old.
He gets a cough. He passes out. He finds out he has inoperable lung cancer.
His brother-in-law is a DEA agent, and after seeing a news story on how much money they find in meth lab busts, he asks to go on a ride along. At the bust, he sees a former student escape. He tracks him down and tells him that because he knows the science and the student knows who to sell it to, they should cook meth.
The story -- a good man does bad things to support his family -- is refreshing as far as television goes. Sex is implied, drug use is obviously present. Honestly, I would have expected to see this on HBO.
Best of all, it's On Demand on Comcast, and the shows are On Demand in HD as well.
They're up to the third episode right now, I believe they ordered a run of 9.

I'm hooked on it as well. He really plays the role well. It is a step up from what he did with Malocm in the middle. More drama and dry humor. I hope they release a DVD of this soon.

Glad to see Cranston getting one of those sweet ass roles to sink teeth into.After watching him on Seinfeld and Malcom,I figured the guy could act, but shit, he is good. All pasty and nerdy and fucking done. Sweet writing. well done. Wife hates it.
I'll be arguing to watch it......

I too like this show. Cranstons accomplice-kid isn't a very good actor but there have been some fun surprises that have made up for it. (acid bath anyone?)
