dont know if this will have reached your shores (wherever you may be), but im trying to keep this thread away from the breaking acts... a tune not necessarily commercial, but commercially available.
if you have already heard this, listen again.

hard-fi: rude boy roots, progressing forward, not stuck looking back... you would prefer to strum 'dont look back in anger' in your bedroom?
Fucking LOL. Rude boy roots? Have you ever seen an interview with Hard-Fi? Theyre the most boring cunts imaginable, making god-awful pop music who before this post, i thought was only listened to by 14 year old chavs.
There are some decent finds though since the record companys began rabidly scouring for "slightly quirky, experimental but not too experimental" indie bands throughout the land ever since Franz Ferdinand kicked off a shitstorm a few years ago.
One of them is The Twilight Sad. Scottish as fuck, mate. They remind me of Mogwai but without the electronics and Rab.C.Nesbitt as a vocalist.
But anyway its move over indie bandwagon and "how many girls that sound like Amy Winehouse can we find" time in the UK record industry now, although we are still on the tail end of "how many girls can we find that sound like Lily Allen".

so?
dont think you have heard much of the music friend, please judge for yourself... this smacks of nme re-gurge
anyway, not about the band, just a cool song i thought, regardless of braaps projected hard-fi listening demographic
btw rude boy as in the ska movement of late 70's / early 80's aka 2 tone... the influence is there to hear, not so much the rocksteady of the 60's... not as in they are rude in their interviews... being not boring in interview doesnt make good music... fucking LOL

You should take 15 or 20 (or 2) minutes and sit down and listen to his music and then see how you feel about soliciting all opinions.

I realise that I now owe this thread a suggestion - and I'll think hard and post back about it, but FFS people, Hard-Fi and The Wombats? Very weaksauce, especially the latter; I really can't understand what all the fuss is about.

you can also get to it from here: http://www.russiancircles.net/?go=releases
nocal: i have no idea, but it's being done through a flash player that links through an id. that led me to this. try the section "Flash Video Streaming (the swf file links to an FLV file stored on a server)". no guarantees.

Allright, the only difficult thing with Reuben is picking just one song to show them off. But if you're gonna like them at all, then you'll Like Freddy Kruger:

The group's line-up is composed of well-known musicians, including ex-Helmet drummer John Stanier, ex-Don Caballero guitarist Ian Williams, ex-Lynx guitarist Dave Konopka, and Tyondai Braxton (son of avant-garde jazz musician Anthony Braxton), who also plays guitar and keyboard and creates live voice samples.
They're different...kinda like electronic progressive metal. Give em a try .

I semi-dig these jokers. Thanks for the tip. I'll do some searching and see what they're up to.

props on Reuben and Battles! Battles are fucking insane, "Mirrored" is a ridiculously technical record. You have to be in a certain mood to listen to it though otherwise its just too much.
Back in 1994, or so, a band called Toadies released an album called Rubberneck. It blew my mind. Their second album was a complete dud, but Rubberneck still kicks ass.
The lead singer was the son of a preacher and this album seems to be a huge FU to Dada and his religion.
If you dig good rock and roll, get a copy of Rubberneck and listen to it a few times.
This is the song that launched them: Possum Kingdom
You've heard this, I'm sure, but the rest of the album was pretty obscure on the airplay end. It's a twisted tune about giving the tormented stalked beauty a beautiful afterlife... you know, as a gift.
Backslider is kind of a son to father fuck-you fest. I love the energy and angst. This tune marks a split between father's: come to Jesus, and son's: I'll take you to Jesus.
Away is a tune that seems to defy the earlier logic of the album but that's par for the course with this album. It has tons of back and forth. In this song he knows in his heart, there is a heaven.
I Come From The Water is a tune that begs to piss PaPa off by proclaiming Darwin knew more than Bible told. It's a cute little middle finger with a groovy backbeat.
Quitter is a tune that jumps in as you begin to wonder about the mental state of the writer. It's fucking brilliant song writing, or this dude is fuckered in the head. Either way, it rocks out.
Mister Love is more of the above with enough energry to keep up with a Meth head. This tune will have you banging your fucking head on a wall.
I Burn is the official end of the album... but it was 1994 so there was a hidden track. I love this song. It's my favorite on the album. The recording and mixing of the acoustic guitar tracks gives me boner every time I listen.
Tyler was the hidden track. It was ok, in a groovy sort of way.
There are a few tunes that were on the album missing from this post. Blame YouTube.
EDIT: I could be wrong on that bonus track. I bought this on cassette and the bonus track wasn't included. It's been a long time, but I believe the bonus track was Tyler.

I have a thing for flamenco guitar, I don't make this readily known, this prevents sand being kicked in my sissy face at the beach.
I first heard Jesse Cook about 10 years ago, playing this song, to this day I have to drop everything to listen to it, and to see it played live is one of the best concert experiences I have ever experienced.
I hope you like it.

when squeezed in between x-factor winners (read: losers), female rnb, and music for hairdressers (mika, et al) they tend to shine more brightly... i am exposed to this for my 8 hour day
