The_Rat: You don't think it might have something to do with the fact that most of you act like you are still in high school and are a bunch of arrogant fuckwits that prefer to keep your website inbred? You are either part of the "in crowd" at Linkswarm or you get insulted until you leave.

If embittered pussies leave, then all is working according to plan.
If only we could make them leave without the coy pleading to be let "in" diguised as disgust at the "in crowd." The sooner you check out of here, the faster you'll be experiencing the gratification of us "missing" you.
BTW: Sorry you weren't accepted into you high school glee club. It certainly sucks to be you.

Actually I'll comment on this one. I lurked on the site for a couple years before I finally decided to pony up to be an Alpha since I was a daily visitor and kind of wanted to give back. As I eased into the site I never was harassed / flamed by any 'In Crowders' but then again I was never an asshole or ass-kisser. If you come here seeking abuse or attention you will get it for better or worse. This is something I realized about the kids in High school and college who were self deprecating and often the subject of ridicule or abuse. Just like the victim in co-dependent relationship these people often seek this negative attention just like you seem to be doing now. If you aren't acting like a total arse and you maybe have something positive to add here and there this is actually a pretty hospitable community. Just look at the new Wotak vs the 'Old' Combative Wotak. It look a couple weeks but once the chest beaters realized that he was sincere about coming back and being a positive entity he was really accepted into the fold. Heck I'm down right glad he's here. Sorry your mommy hates you or whatever you are actually pissed off about but don't cry for me Argentina.
I do feel a bit badly about my recent lack of participation. I used to be a pretty consistent link submitter and was actually a little proud to be in the top 10 Rad Factor & getting my bitterness rating below the magic 20% mark. this year I have not submitted a single fucking link, posted a new journal entry or forum topic. This has a lot to do with time. I'll see a link or hear a story, say to myself, hey that is for the swarm but not do anything about it. I see about 80% of these bubble up in a day or two anyway so I no big loss I guess. I have just had some work pressures, GF pressures and I bought a boat and have been humping it as hard as I can with a fishing rod.

I've been a lurker since back in the Megarad day. I joined a while back because I couldn't resist commenting any more. I'm too cheap to pay for alpha.
I like the relatively simple and clean format. Especially the lack of ads that distract from the site and crash my browser far too often. The lack of pop ups, pop unders, slide across, click through to read, and other irrating money grubbing.
I get a kick out of the "seen it all" "been there, done that", bitterly cynical and condecsending attitude common on the site. (While at the same time hinting that the folks on this site are actually a tad above average intelligence.)
It is really hard to find links that will "fit" on the site.
I hate that the site has been proxy filtered by most employers. I'm sure that accounts for much of the apparent slowdown. It made it much harder for me to find time to surf to it.
I really don't understand the desire most of you have for hairless skinny girls. Girls that look like boys. It is like so gay!
I like that it is a relatively small online community. I think I'd lose interest pretty fast if it exploded in usage.
I often get a good chuckle out of the site title which changes just often enough.
I like that the site isn't afraid to link to stuff that shocks me - often.
Characteristic links at linkswarm:
Cool photographs
Really good art
Exceptionally disgusting porn and other acts of depravity
Exceptionally good porn
Cool stuff with electric guitars
Ron Paul news
Really cynical political news
Things that make you despair about how the world and life really suck.
The site is contemporary counter culture. If it ever became popular, it wouldn't be "counter" culture any more.

Actually, this is one of the coolest things about LinkSwarm and I think it's what keeps me coming back and wanting to participate. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only faggot in this crowd.
graycube: It is really hard to find links that will "fit" on the site.
This is not true. It's fucking easy. Bring something not played the fuck out. Something interesting is cool - whether it's new or old. I pay close attention to how the AQ votes and it seems to me like we vote + for things that are not the FARK mainstream at the time, Is the strangest news at the time, or is just fucking interesting.
As for the question/statement: "LinkSwarm Sucks?", fuck, for all I know maybe it does but I like it and find it to be much more enjoyable when I take part in it rather than just watching others do so.
It's inviting, in a "fuck you", sort of way and that's actually quite refreshing.

Please stand still as I dip my moist ball sack, decorated with hearts and sprinkles, into your gaping mouth.
Yeah, its a tough room, but like the TrueNate said, if you are looking for it, you're sure to find it. There is nothing different about LS than any other group since the beginning of such beasts. There is no fay forum coach attempting to slap you on the hand for speaking 'da truth, most users of LS are of a higher inteliigence and quite distinctive backgrounds, while also having a something in common. That something probably is a desire to experience interesting time on web, hopefully educational/insightful, hopefully witty/funny, and never tainted in cooze stenched correctness or Holden Caulfield phonies. Nobody in LS is nasty, but they also aren't tolerant of idiots, attention-seekers, ball lickers, but will let you lick their privates without hesitation.
In the end, if you participate and take something away from this site, then great. If not, then great. The assmunches that run this site are decent peeples, as are most of the LSers.
Now, please commence in sucking the gizz through my ball sack, El Rattito.

I miss the front page feel of Megarad - we have the same ability to post with journals and forums, but the feel of the preview on the from page is a little less interesting now.
I agree about the 3% deciding on what links get approved - I posted one a couple months back that Vas thought was cool when I showed him and he immediately asked me to swarm it. DENIED!!! Not that I really care about it, cuz I don't submit a lot of links, but when THE CREATOR asks for something and it's shot down by the alphas, makes you go HMMMMM!?!
We all have different priorities, different senses of humor. If I really cared about all of you seeing a link I thought was cool, I'd post it in a forum or journal.
I guess what it comes down to is that we're all just a bunch of lazy fuks. We're tired of playing with the retarded kid next door every day, now maybe we're just popping in on him every now and then.

I originally joined up with Megarad because like tank said I saw what was going on in the journals and forums on the front page, the general intelligence and mix of black humor. The links came as an after thought. Maybe it's time to bring that back? Make the forums more visible with a preview at the bottom of the page and a scroll box above for the link (basically the old Megarad theme).
I haven't ever used the irc channel and I'm carp sad that I didn't when I was more active in link submittal and commenting but like someone said maybe shift that to the main page somehow. It may be ghey sounding but what about a vB style shoutbox?
Another thought I had was once a link made it past the Alpha queue give the rest of the swarm a way to show they liked the link also. People don't always have a comment to make even if they liked the link or they think it's stupid to just say 'thanks, good link' as a comment. Give them something simple, maybe a thumbs up to hit and show the number of thumbs it gets. It's some kind of feedback for the submitters and the queue to get a feel for what kinds of links people want.

As you know I have not went Alpha and therefore have no real “say” as for the direction you choose on going with this but I will offer one thing.
I was an avid fan of attu when he held a .blogspot page and his popularity was great, he spent the cash and went with attu world with a .com and everything went into the shitter with all the changes.
People say “change this or that” all the time bitching about banner adds and the annoying “congratulations, you have just won an X - box” ad nauseum bullshit that appears on other sites.
I know the swarm is already a .com and that’s not the point, it’s just the drastic changes really alienated his readers and I don’t think that site will ever recover to what it was at one time. Simple and straight to the point like the Swarm is now.
You run a tight ship here and I hope you can keep it as real as it is now, and once my ex-wife is outa my pockets I’ll put up the cash.
But that’s my 2¢ |

I'm gay as hell then.
You don't think it might have something to do with the fact that most of you act like you are still in high school and are a bunch of arrogant fuckwits that prefer to keep your website inbred? You are either part of the "in crowd" at Linkswarm or you get insulted until you leave.
Enjoy the downward spiral. You deserve it.
I wish I was still in high school or college. That's when my participation was at the highest - I had free time. Now I have endless drudgery at work. The money helps though.
I am also going through a very depressing period in my life - nothing really matters and I'm just going through the motions. I'd have killed myself by now if I wasn't such a pussy. Hopefully it will pass.
And being part of the "in" crowd just means more insults. This is the internet - extreme sarcasm and insults are a part of it, all day, every day. It wouldn't feel right without it. Spend time away from sites like Fark and you'll see this.
You should also try being arrogant yourself - it's very satisfying.

this type of participation is great, its one of the main reasons i stick around. i wouldn't say i'm like the main sharks who start a feeding frenzy when they smell blood, more like one of the parasite fish attached to the pale underbelly of one of those sharks.

also, i find it hard to find out what the current buzz is, whether its someone getting a thrashing in link comments, someone getting a thrashing in a forum thread, or someone getting a thrashing in a journal.
this maybe just my ineffectual-ness at life, but with a job, partner and new baby, with not alot of free time, a day away from LS can mean searching for the current active shit a little tedious, but still worthwhile. not sure if anything can be done about it, or should be. the whole "talking shit" section and "forum shite/journal shite" is handy, so that'll probably do and i'll have to deal with it.
