What music players do you guys use? Which ones do you like, why, etc? I want to buy me one that performs well in the department of audio fidelity, because I likes my shit to sound good.

I was thinking of this for the box:

Sandisk Clip

And for the headphones, either this:

Atrio M5

Or this:

V-moda vibe

Anybody got any input here? Anybody even care?

$100 earbuds for a 2gig player?

Anyways...

I have the 80gig ipod classic, and waiting for a Rock Box port to become available for that model. I'm also using some $15 skullcandy earbuds which trump the apple ones by a long-fucking-shot... Though, I'm getting some studio headphones for school soon, I'll probably use those with it.

I've bought a few sandisk players over the years. They've performed well and didn't chew through batteries too fast and the price is right.

I use my Blackjack. It only holds 2 gig, but that's plenty enough for about a dozen albums.

i have a rio carbon that i haven't used in quite a while. it's 5GB, which is ok if you're not using it for long stretches without being able to change shit around. it would be nice to have way more storage because i never know what i'm going to feel like listening to.

i would never buy an apple product for an MP3 player because i dislike DRM. i also hate itunes. the rio is drag and drop, takes nearly any file type, and has a great interface and battery life.

i mostly use my computer and the CD player in my car, so in the future if i buy another MP3 player it'll be mostly for the gym. in that case i'll get one with bluetooth and probably get those motorola stereo bluetooth headphones (which are nearly waterproof) because wires are a huge hassle.

Don't be disrespekting Steve Jobs and Apple. Apple has been very very good to me over the years . I know you might have a problem with DRM, I don't. So I buy a song from itunes and they will only let me burn it 7 times. How many times do I need to burn it?

I just bought me a sandisk sansa e260 (4gb) for about $60, and so far I'm liking it. I installed rockBox on it and have to say that is a large reason I'm liking it so much.

If you're into good sound, you can't go wrong with something that supports rockbox. in addition to mp3's, it'll play OGG, M4A and FLAC and I'm sure other lossless codecs. I have tracks with those formats loaded so I know they work.

I also have an Archos Gmini 400, but it is a harddisk player and not solid state like this sandisk. I bought it more for data storage w/ mp3/video being a nice bonus.

The only thing I don't like about the SanDisk is the proprietary connector on the unit, meaning I must lug around a cable specifically for it if I want to connect it away from home.

I refuse to overpay for an apple player. they need to be at least 50% cheaper for me to consider them.

I have the 8GB Cowon iAudio7. It plays mp3, flac, ogg and a few other formats I could give a shit about. The audio quality is by far the best I've heard from an mp3 player(I have a kick-ass soundsystem in my car), and I've heard a fair bit of players. I need to get a good pair of earbuds, though the ones that came with it aren't terrible. I was thinking something by sennheiser, as they've never done me wrong before. Ipods are okay, though buying drm'd anything is a bit silly to me. Why would I want to buy a product that limits what I can do with it. I bought the fucker, I should be able to copy it to 8 mp3 players, computers, cd's or whatever the fuck else I want to. I paid for it. Check out www.bleep.com for a decent selection of flac or high quality(320k) mp3's.

Another small step towards Mac users taking over LS.

Mac: 3 | Windows: 10,000

I got an iPod Shuffle from a company event. It didn't work. Went to the local Apple store, where it took a condescending "genius" 1/2 hour to "fix" (replace). It stopped working after two days. Went to Apple web site and did an exchange - after which I found they charged my credit card $100.

Also hate iTunes. Took the Shuffle with me on vacation, after loading it up with my PC. When I wanted to add one song using my laptop, it wouldn't let me do it without erasing everything on it first, because I'd copied files there using my desktop PC, which of course I didn't have with me since I was on vacation.

And their commercials are all about image - that's the only selling point they have.

Screw iApple.

i have a 3rd gen ipod that was a gift. i like it, but i assume i'd like any non-retarded mp3 player about the same. i don't use it very often, though.

my wife has an old creative nomad zen xtra, i think. i was fairly impressed by it and thought the sound quality was pretty nice. she now only really uses her matchbook ipod shuffle, however. it's pretty fucking small - which is awesome, but i couldn't even get it to charge without installing itunes on her computer. maybe it's just the charge light that wouldn't work, but it pissed me off.

i can't really speak on sound quality, as i haven't put the same mp3 on each one and listened through the same headphones.

the ipod buds are meh, but i'm ok using them at the gym and whatnot. i'm using these for when i wanna chillax and i like them a lot.

if buying one today, i'd probably refrain from an ipod due to drm and itunes. i used ephpod from windows and use gtkpod from linux to update, rather than install bloatware i don't need. drag and drop on the creative is pretty sweet.

hobo: How many times do I need to burn it?

as many as you fucking want to since you paid for it, i'd think. but that's just me.

I got a first gen ipod nano. Never had a probably, and fairly durable. The new nanos are pretty sweet too.

iTunes sucks, but I steal all my music anyways, so DRM doesn't matter. And you can charge it any where someone has an ipod, so the shitty battery on my nano isnt all too bad.

I think I'm gonna go install rockbox.

Ive got one of the new Sony Walkman mp3 players, plays video and shit too. Sound quality is top notch.
The best thing about it is you just drag and drop mp3s/folders onto it like an external HD. No iTunes-esque malarky.
