I wouldn't normally do this, but I have taken the content of a long thread from another site and painstakingly amalgamated it here because I don't hate all of you yet.
The thread was "useful websites." People listed websites that have some kind of utilitarian purpose. I didn't include every site listed because some were shit and some were worthless and some were for Canada (steel and LK, no one cares about you or Tim Horton).
Posters ought to provide feedback on the sites in this thread, and also suggest your own examples of USEFUL sites.

http://pushreg.consilient.com/ free push email to your phone. to those of you in the know, push email is the reason blackberry is what it is today and you will want this. for those who don't know: pull email is where your phone is set to check your accounts every so often; the more often you have your phone check your mail, the faster the battery drains. push is where your mail is automatically logged into by a third party and you are automatically updated when you have new mail. this means nearly real-time results and your battery doesn't drain.
rotten.com/ibrary is my old favorite; it is rarely updated now but i check it obsessively. check the "what's new" section for a mix of articles about diverse topics. all are well researched and well written.
somethingilearned.com is a site i discovered because of my recent obsession with post punk. it's a blog kind of thing with mp3s of obscure bands. really good, but seems to be on hiatus at the moment.

Metal Archives - The friggin' Metal Archives; nothing more to say.
ROM Nation - Thousands of free game roms from nearly every console to date.

i was looking for 100 Flowers' album "100 Years of Pulchritude" on every bittorrent site, but couldn't find anything. i googled it and came across this site. i'm finding links to bands i can't find downloads for. granted it's not full albums, and you have to get the mp3s one by one, but still.
EDIT: at the bottom of each mp3 detail it tells you the length of the file. check that, as it will link to sites that have 30 or 60 second samples, and no one wants those
