Continued from hereHow do you want to be governed? My dream country would have public health care, subsidized education and would follow a direct democracy similar to the Swiss model.

My dream country would not be a welfare state. There would be no entitlement programs. There would be no corporate subsidies. There would be no prohibition or nanny-statism.

The government would operate a Court system, a military/navy, and a police force, and not much else.

In my ideal country, the people would get a chance to vote every elected leader OUT of office every year. Violating the Constitution (which would greatly limit the scope of the government) would be a crime worthy of spending the rest of your life in prison.

Good question. Ideally, government would be a representative organization bound to the will of the people on a one-man-one-vote basis, within guidelines protecting individual rights. Sound familiar?

Popular culture currently puts a great deal of weight in the so called "sanctity of life" principle, which translates to the majority enacting laws against personal privacy, choice of drug use, sexual experimentation, and scientific research, to mention a few examples. To make matters worse, after representatives are elected they are not required to ask the opinion of the people in decisions that affect everyone. They basically do whatever they want until the next election, in many instances.

I think I might prefer that most if not all laws be voted on in general elections on a regular basis (since the technology now exists to allow it), in conjunction with the courts deciding whether those laws are within the guidelines of protecting individual rights. For example, if people were asked whether they want to allow law enforcement to invade their personal privacy without good reason, I think most people would vote "no". But as it is, people are not asked that - instead they are told that the decision has been made for them, and that if they want to change it, they must wait until the next election. (Why the courts have not quashed this effort is still beyond me.)

A better question might be: why do we even need government to begin with?

I want a true democracy - where the majority of the people always rule.

Our current neodemocracy can kiss my motherfucking ass. Highest bidders lobby for our votes? That's not democracy, that's an industrial machine enforced by a legal system that is shaped by the highest bidders... the same big bidders that sell you everything, employ you and compete for your pathetic $'s. This = big business owns and controls you.

Fuck that democracy and it's supporters.

If given a choice between current democracy and sticks and rocks...

I choose sticks and rocks.

I also choose fuck Uart.

what an excellent libertopia you have created. do you ever wonder if the founding fathers intended the constitution to be a flexible or evolving document?

Yes. I also believe that the smartest among us can and will guide the stupidest among us. Those who refuse to learn will become Darwin statistics.

...and I believe that we can accomplish this without the help of big brother or big business.

Either way; I have sticks and stones.

Sorry man, the stupid out-number the smart by a minimum of 100:1, THE STUPID WILL ALWAYS WIN. This is what is happening now, the Big Money Corporate Lobbyists have known this for years and pander to it, that is how they win. If the stupid could be taught by and learn from the smart, or even from their own experience, it would have happened by now, we have only been trying for several thousand years. I think we should have seen a result OTHER then the dumb bastards getting dumber by now, but no such luck.

Yes, Darwin gets a few of the exceptionally stupid ones, but nowhere near enough of the averagely stupid to make a difference.

Do not be suckered by your experience here, the 'Swarm has an average IQ quite a few points over the general population, we are not part of the stupid.

While in college studying Political Science, I had a Fascination with the concept of an oligarchy. I always wondered how that would work in our modern society.

I now realize the USA is governed by one.

My dream country? The one I live in now, only if it wasn't so corrupt.

Only if we're put in power and can rule by fiat. You ever try to argue with a donkey from inside a sewer?

I wish this was the kind of thing I could believe these days.

I’d like to see the provincial/state level of government disappear altogether. The separation by distance and geography has little bearing on the views and interests of the citizens. Dividing a country into little fiefdoms seems counter productive and leads to duplication of programs and services.

This is a good thing. Don't be afraid to shoot the zombies in the face.

I would love to see America return to a state of govern that supports small business in a way that 1920 and before did.

I want to buy my beef from a local farm and my bread from a local bakery. I want to see Americans manning up and supporting their own communities with their own hands. Electing fair men as their sheriffs and square dancing next to barns that everyone at the party helped build.

Fuck Wal*Mart and everything like it.

Big business has destroyed the heart of this country.

I'm not really sure what world you live in.

Apparently, you have attained a certain level of affluence and have not been affected by poverty, loss, or human circumstance.

And you want a Police State.

Do you think that a change from current governance to your ideal government is very far off? Just give us a few more "terrorist" attacks or a sudden shift in global economy and you'll get you're wish sparky. We'll get all the court, military/navy and police force we can handle.

We're in a forced leadership already and are just one failed step from dictatorship.

I, for one, believe in a back-flow of resources that may allow those who have little wealth to raise children to be smart enough to realize that any government will take whatever power it has and stretch it to the extent of it's ability.

Put all of your eggs in one basket and you might just wind-up with a fuckload of regret for choosing the wrong shoes.
