Has anybody gotten rid of the land line and switched to cell exclusively?

Pretty much everyone under 30 has done this. Many people over 30 are also doing so. |

I would like to but our backward telco insists on a landline phone being connected and paid for if you want broadband internet.

The wife, my 2 kids and I all use just our cell phones and have for about a year. We had a land line just because our local redneck inet firm required it for DSL, but I switched to cable and threw my cordless phone out the window.

I did and then DirecTV called me on my cell and told me that I need at least one of my boxes hooked up to a landline. I politely suggested they pound sand and have never heard from them about it again.

I still have one, but only because when I went to cancel it the telco offered me a twelve dollar per month low use deal, for 25 outgoing calls calls/mo max. I figured why not, it may come in handy.
Then again, maybe I am wasting $150 a year.

I asked my roommate this same question awhile back... do we need the landline if we both have cell phones? He mumbled something about AT & T and the computer etc... and I let it go. I will ask again.

Since I hate cable high-speed, but prefer DSL, then the land line is a requirement for service (with my local Bell). Even if that weren't the case, I still prefer the quality of a land-line to land-line conversation.... which is a factor of my local cell provider, the rapid rate of talk between me and my friends, the talkover that we do, etc. I can't tell you how many times, the flow of conversation was interupted by outages (driving), latency (dead gap), etc on a cell to land or cell to cell call... which just takes the old experience of a land line and shits all over it.
Perhaps I need to change my speaking style?! Fuck that, I'm not changing for technology. It will change for me.

Yes but only for hurricane season. The Cell Towers tend to get knocked out for a few days or more if we get a storm. I was Dial-up only for 42 days after Wilma 2 years ago (power from noisy ass generator too) . Everything was out for weeks but the landline.
