Swarm, whut's up?
I am doing some laptop shopping, and processors have me bumfuzzled.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) [add $104 or $3/month1]
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) [add $161 or $5/month1]
Intel® Core™ DUO T2350 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [Included in Price]
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5300 (2MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB) [add $46 or $1/month1]
I know more is better, but what's the difference in Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core DUO? Is all the duo stuff just GHz * 2?
I'm getting Vista (I want to play Halo 2 PC), so which one would be the best bang for my buck? If a game has a minimum system requirement of 2.0GHz P4, does an Intel Core DUO 1.86GHz meet that?
If anyone knows a cheaper company than Dell, point me to it.
Kthx.

I can't speak to the processor speeds, and am happy you're asking so I can find out too, but I would say that if your top "here's what I want to do with it" line-item is video games, a laptop isn't necessarily your best bet, especially if they're modern games and not, say, nethack.
You probably don't have much choice though, and need a portable, right?

Core Duo is 32 bit
Core 2 Duo is 64 bit
Ergo, in terms of performance, Core 2 > Core Duo. Both possess dual procs on a single chip.
PS, please don't short shrift AMD Procs. Not plugging them, just asking to give them a look.
Also, Vas is right about the platform (desk vs lap) for gaming... A laptop rig by Alien ($$$$) could deliver the performance compared to other laptop makers, but pound for pound of performance gaming wise, a desktop is still the better move.
Hope this helps.
Also, Dell sucks. Do yourself a favor and find a friend, small biz that can build you a better machine, with better components more cost effectively. I know, I know, that always isn't the "easiest" thing to have done.... as in, takes more of your time, but it is a good move.

I actually need a laptop. Not for convenience; for computerfag classes, but I might as well be able to do gaming on it since mom is getting the desktop.
Since Core 2 is 64bit, would the
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5300 (2MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB) [add $46 or $1/month1]
be better than the
Intel® Core™ DUO T2350 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [Included in Price]
I'm still not understanding how the GHz works.
Is the 1.73GHz faster than the 1.86GHz, or is it just more because it's 64 bit?
I understand nothing about the insides of computers, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
