Hey dudes,
Some may remember Crackalackin harping on Night Watch a while back....
I never got around to seeing it, but always thought the trailer looked cool...
I always thought it a little presumptuous that they could say "The first chapter in an Epic Fantasy Trilogy" when they hadn't even released the first....
but alas...here we go... Day Watch
and oh shit!!! They're after the Chalk of Destiny!
Hmmm... ala Pan's Labrynth??

If I recall, Day Watch was a lot more MTV than Night Watch, and even more frenetic and harder to grok. In fact, although I knew I had seen it, I started to doubt myself while watching that trailer until the car-on-building scene, which is the first scene I can remember seeing. I can recall one other scene and then a lot of vague (though cool-looking) visual happenings and wierd semi-senseless plot development.
Incidentally, this thread led me to find this again -- thanks.

That trailer looked like an exercise in how many special effects you can fit into a film. I wasn't particularly fond of Night Watch so I don't know how this will fare but I will probably see it anyway if not just for the cool effects. |

I watched it. DayWatch is more watchable, sure. It may even make sense if you connect the dots, without the really big whutthefuk-wheresthelogic moments of NightWatch.
But it's still drivel. Bad, L. Ron Hubbard style shit. Raping you through your eye sockets and ear basins while you sit and wonder who is at fault: the so-called writer of the source material or the so-called director of the so-called movie. The actors do a decent job given the material (mostly because you still have to pass the tough entrance/exit exams in drama/theatre schools in Russia, and there's preference for actors with credentials in hiring in all projects financed by multiple partners).
The special effects are quite good, especially if you consider the shoestring budget and the self-taught artists in the studio.
