dent: Here, fuck with this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?cuucflltjgx
I recorded it with Garageband. It's pretty simple, standard tuning, drop D. I bet we can get quite a bit of other instruments on top. I have the raw files if anyone wants to fuck with the drums.
Feel free to add or shorten the length of the track, add new drums, more drums, different drums.
Dent - It sounds like the pitch is off by 3/4 step or so...is that accidental?
Just now figured out how to get my hardware/software to work together. Now I just need to read the 300+ page user manuals.
I don't know what sort of files, etc are compatible for sharing, but FYI I have:
Adaptec Reason
Ableton Live 5.2
Sony Sound Forge
Help on where to download cool patch files welcome.

Crap, it may have been a half step down, now that you mentioned it. I have a habit of tuning all over the place depending on what band I'm jamming along with on CD.
I thought that posting something, anything will spur some people to do the same, or even add to the track in any way, shape or form.
I say just post mp3's for other people to import into their recording software until we all figure out wtf we're doing.

I loaded the mp3 into FruityLoops; tempo detected was 125bpm.
It would be awesome to know the key though.
(BTW, it's a cool song).

Here's my take on Dent's upload. It now has a kind of moody synth background. The format is as follows:
Bar 1 - 16 = intro
Bar 17 - 44 = repeats four times (28 bars each)
Remainder = outro
So, there are four solo spots (or three solos and whatev).
Have fun :D

I'm having trouble getting my bass setup to make me happy, so I mixed this track instead using samples n' mixcraft. I set it up for some lead, so feel free to get all santana on it (this means you Dent). The song is in A minor, similar to qwerty, except this is allowed to post in the forums ZING!
Burritos Del Pantalones
(the headphones I used for this are shit, so the mix probably sounds goofy for y'alls. sorry) |

I can try and tweak it, do you think it's # or b?
BTW, what kind of hardware/software do you have? You're studying music production, right? I am just getting into the digital music scene, and know little about it - what do the pro's use?
I am using Albeton Live 6 Lite - it came bundled with the sound card I bought, and it rocks.
EDIT: I still cannot help picturing you as Jimi.

1. I'm not in the production courses yet
2. Logic pro is tits, but for generic dicking around I like mixcraft - it's simple as fuck to use and allows for vst and other plugin types
3. I use a Line6 Bass podxt Live as an input, and Audio buddy phantom power brick, mxl 990/991 mics, variax700 bass, art & lutherie 12 string acoustic. My setup isnt ideal, I'll be investing in better shit soon.
4. Some parts sound sharp, some flat. It's hard to pinpoint. I'm inclined to think its the intonation on the guitar (due to detuning, etc). Sue me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sensitive to it. (which doesn't make me a better musician, just an asshole of a critic) |

It was cleaner before I f'd w/it. The synth is intentionally out of wack to make it sound spooky. It is, admitedly, kind of messy. But I think the detuning in general has a certain charm to it. Like it belongs on the soundtrack for Zombies on the Moon.
Let me see what I can do with your Santana number.

Wow, I never saw any of these updates!?! I totally thought this thread was dead.
JWalker, "Linkswarm 2a" was fucking spot on man! I totally dug what you were doing with the synth. You mixed the panning really well and it had a wonderful spooky vibe, like if Tool released an album in 1963.
I love the Burrito track too, and since now that I know it exists, I will plug my shit in tonight and record some "Santana".

Ok, here's my Burrito track: Burrito Del Pantelones 4
I didn't record guitar over the entire track (just up until 1:11), because I thought it would be neat to get others in the track. This was really fun, though.

There's still room for a lot more. Somewhere, I think I dropped a beat; not sure how that happened.
Say hello to my new friends :)
I got them both new from an ebay store *cheap*. They aren't top quality but are plenty good enough to learn on.

figure out how to do this without lag. I dare you.
I can't even get guitar/vocals to sync up on skype. But if you get it working you've got yourself a ukulele player.

thx.
I have no web cam (for now). But, I suspect latency would be an issue. I've had moderate success using eJamming, which has dealt (somehow) with latency. But if web cams actually works, I would be up for it.
