You remember right. The way I had originally coded that was pretty retarded -- pessimized, one could say. I wouldn't mind bringing this back and doing it properly. It'd be pretty easy,
In other optimization news, you'll find that the categories page loads much faster as part of bringing back link icons. The default sort for each category is smarter, too -- descending chronological order, just like the main page.
In other other news, I made a couple small changes to the forums display code.

How about a listing on each member's info page showing when they last posted? Kinda like the @seen command in IRC. The actual date and time would be displayed, and perhaps it could be a hyperlink to the actual last post--in the link comments, forums, journals, etc.
Dunno how valuable it would be, but it occurred to me when thinking about some of the good posters who haven't come around in a long time.

We've got last link posted and last link comment on there now. I could add forum post as well. The real problem isn't getting that information, but displaying it in a way that doesn't creep towards info yardsale.

Simple request, but it's been bugging me for a couple weeks now:
Could we get some bottom-nav please? Simple text links would be fine.
See... the thing is, when reading a forum post, or a much commented link, sometimes the only prudent action is to exit the current page as quickly as possible and hope that the contents have not had enough time to sear themselves into your cortex causing you to spend the several nights dreaming of small furry woodland creatures with inexplicable Scottish accents and enormous genitalia...
[ahem]
Anyway, since I am frequently on my laptop with nothing but the crappy touchpad, scrolling all the way back to the top to select my next source of entertaintment [not a typo], can sometimes be a real pain.
Thoughts?

Just in case....
You could use the keyboard shortcut for "go back one page", Alt+left arrow, to get back to the main page. That's what I do.
Here's a list of all the keyboard shortcuts for IE, FF and Opera (both PC and Mac) CLICKY CLICKY.
My personal favorite is being able to decrease or increase the text size with CTRL+"- or +". Makes it easier on my rapidly depleting eyesight, now if I could just get a palm shaver then I'd be set.

You could also hit Backspace to go back a page.
You could also try Stroke-it (not a typo), super-nifty gesture software, one of the few things I always install on every Windows machine. It won't help you out too much here, since trackpads do suck unremittingly and it would probably require holding down right click with your thumb and then stroking the pad upwards with your index finger. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it may suit you, and I thought I'd mention it in any case because it's so fuking useful.
Having said that, a 'Go to Top' link is something requested with a frequency I find bizarre but also therefore unignorable, and it just so happens I'm realizing I need to do a complete makeover of the header and footer of the page. No idea what the header's going to look like, but Digg's footer is a really good example of what I'd like to do down there, and I'll work in a 'Return to top' link for you and your keyboard-hatin' homeys.

Would it be possible to add a "links in queue" feature to the "my account" page, so that any member can quickly check to see how many links they have in the queue, and not get the 'chill out' message , or even delete a link that they realise, in the cold light of day, is not worthy of being there.
