If there's one thing the business-savvy CEOs of the world know, it's that you don't want your competition to get too far ahead of you, and just as Plastic Logic announced its plans to build the first electronic paper plant in Dresden, Germany, Polymer Vision is trying to make good on its nearly two-year old promise.

No. I don't have the WWF-fu to know who that is. But I do know who this guy is, and I believe he has some snacks you may enjoy.

I'm using a tablet (IBM X41) at the moment. I am continuously amazed at the character recognition.
The company I'm with is in healthcare and patient safety. I'm currently working on a web-based program for nurses. I have always thought a charting program for MD's, using the character recognition for verifying meds, would be tits. But the complaint so far (according to Marketing) is that notebook PC's are too heavy. The "paper" technology is just the ticket, although it'll take a while probably to mature.

ok, first off, it's now WWE. get with the 21st century, fagions.
secondly, this is linkswarm. where you swarm links, not forum them. this is not linkforum nor the inverse, forumswarm.
thank u frans.
*jwalker: i'm not sure how much epaper would help. i'm assuming substantial additions to support input capabilites (leveraged through emerging paradigms, naturally).

Nifty. I used to work at a huge healthcare company, preparing software loads for all the various approved hardware configurations. Over time, we had acquired some places that wanted their nurse-types to roll around using tablets for just the purpose you describe, and we were starting to think about the build process we'd need for tablets when I left.
That was in like 1999, though. 7 years later, I would think it would be less of a "someday" technology and more of a common practice.
How do you like the X41? A few years ago, I almost bought a then-old IBM Tablet at the MIT Flea for like $60. Can't remember the model number, and Google isn't helping for shit. It was like a T80 or T101 or something arcane. Ran Pen Windows. Came with a little tiny printer and even then was probably useless apart from comedic etch-a-sketch purposes.
(I miss Thinkpads in general, sadface.)
EDIT: 730T, I guess it was. Booyashak.

They don't tend to be the fastest or cheapest machines in their given class, but they are peerless in their combination of rugged portability, extensibility, pleasing tactile design, generally sensible keyboard layout, and availability of upgrades and replacement parts.
They also feature patented clitmouse technology.

I like it okay. My first Thinkpad, so a little getting used to the red nipple. (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, lol.) Writing on the screen is cool, and the XP Tablet functions are intuitive. But, I'll always be able to type faster; there has to be a reason to use it - like the MD thing, or capturing signatures. I have yet to experiment coding an ink-enabled program - should be interesting.
The "paper" has been a long time coming, but I am convinced it will be a big hit in lots of ways. Smaller, lighter, more flexible technology is always a winner.
