i just heard about this mike judge movie, and it sounds like it has potential. has anyone seen it yet?

from imdb:

Private Joe Bowers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.

I heard about it, too. I like the premise.

De-evolution in action

Watched this last night.

Sweetness. Mike Judge has his finger on the dying pulse of America. You know a movie is going to be good when Luke Wilson plays the smartest man in the world.

I was impressed with the big feel of it.
P.S. Mya Rudolph is funny and hawt.

Go rent it.

This was all over certain dump sites and torrent sites a couple months ago.You should still be able to find one lingering around somewhere.

Worth watching fo sho. Sadly, the people who most need to take his points to heart are the ones lacking the necessary self-awareness to do so -- which is in fact one of the points made in the film.

Sort of funny. It was like he took 20 minutes of awesome classic material and then strectched it into a full length movie. There were certain things wrong with it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Luke Wilson gave a pretty sub-standard performance, Maya Rudolph was painfully unfunny, but Dax Shepard (that fagabeefe from Punk'd) was actually hilarious. It was either the directing (with Judge behind the camera), or it was the editing. It was as though they didn't cut away or linger long enough with the shots.

Then there is the question of whether the movie just became what it was parodying. He didn't distance himself from the material. There was a fucking voiceover for chrissakes; voiceovers are typically there because of an assumption of audience idiocy or because of screenwriting laziness.

Overall it was worth renting or downloading, but if I bought two tickets to see this movie and drove to a theater I would have been disappointed.
