Delta blues ? Kansas City style ? What you looking for, my man ?

Check out Sonny Boy Williamson if you can find any. A few years back they released some remastered recordings.

Buddy Guy is a good choice. I love Robert Cray band and the ZZ Top albums from the 70's are fun. Robert Johnson is a must-have for any blues newbie.

The blues is my fave and the origin of most American music, especially rock n roll.
Start with Robert Johnson, compare with the multitude of his songs that Clapton has covered.

I really like Lightnin Hopkins and Johnny Lee Hooker, Blind Willie Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt and don't miss Son House , I've got several gigs of just Blues if you have a preferred method of receipt.

Check out:

"Howlin' Wolf the London Sessions"

"Get Yer Yas Yas Out" - Rolling Stones, Keith Richards (Awesome Rhythm Player) took the Chuch Berry shuffle rhythm, which he got from delta guys like Robert Johnson, and created his own style and genre with it. On this record you can really hear it. That shuffle rhythm is something the delta lads picked up from the left hand work of blues piano players.
Exile on Main St.
Almost any early Stones work.

Get the idea of the (mostly) 12 bar form, played with the I, IV and V.
chords.

Eric Clapton.
A Toronto band called Mainline put out a classic record years ago called "Stink" - Probably hard to find, i don't know if you can download it, but good and heavy.

Taj Mahal - he has some great stuff. Both acoustic and electric.
David Bromberg.
Alman Brothers at Filmore East.
Check out Johnny Winter doing "Highway 61 Revisited" at the Bob Dylan 30th anniversary concert. Incredible slide playing.
Dylan himself is heavily influenced by blues artisits, and has written a lot of blues tunes, but they don't usually have the word 'blues' in the title.

There's a bit of a start, but as you know, there's a ton more...

i would like to just reiterate what has been said, clapton, the allmans, and the stones are all amazing blues artists to listen to, but looking to where their roots lie is also good. check out muddy waters, t-bone walker, and bo diddley for a start. the problem with trying to find original recordings of blues tracks is that most of the original blues artists did not record their stuff, they just passed it down in their playing to other musicians. since blues music builds on top of itself, everything out today can be traced back to something else, that is what makes it so good too. each artist puts their own interpretation onto an older theme.

Gonna try a different one, think I've gotta break 'em up into zip files limited by hosting sites max file size

If you are interested in modern blues, hunt up an Aussie guy by the name of Dave Hole. I have a couple of CD's if you can get the share thing working.
Have you tried Allpeers ( the one mentioned here )? My user name is Dragonstaff if you want to give it a try.

Cray is good :-D.

Albert King. Muddy Waters. John Lee Hooker. BB King (Jazzy-blues). John Mayall (limey-blues). Check out the Music Maker Relief Foundation for some roots-blues recordings that help out some lesser known, but still amazing, musicians as well.

Stevie-Ray Vaughn is a texas-rock-blues sort of dealie, he's good/ also Doyle Bramhall.
