I love sandbox games like the aforementioned Elder Scrolls Oblivion.
I was never a big fan of GTA (Grand Theft Auto) but overall it was a cool sandbox type of game where you could go anywhere in the game at your own discretion.
There's been a really crappy flow of console games in this generation for Xbox 360 in my opinion (with the exception of a couple of the launch titles); so I've been starving for something and I went out and got a copy of Saint's Row (released at the beginning of September).
The only reason I'm actually writing this is because the game is the biggest focken ripoff of GTA games ever made. (And I want to say that before you think of accusing me of fanboyish spammery about my beloved children's toy; Microsoft's amazing Xbox 360 - available at your favorite electronics retailer.)
Nearly everything in Saint's Row is a rip-off, from the polygonal character style, to mission design, cinematic layout, thematic presentation etc. There are too many things for me to even list, but if you have played the GTA games you will immediately recognize the infringement. Basically for a massive game like GTA, this entails a lot of off-rippery. Not that the game is not fun -- it is, but evrything from the art design to the way spawning cars randomize is total GTA.
Whereas GTA was a radical innovator in the console market as well as an often satirical social commentary; Saint's Row is just a blatant GTA ripoff with a less-deep but more sensational storyline and better-animated boobies.
It's really just unbeliavable how much of a chinesey approach THQ took in making this game. I guess it is poetic justice that a controversial game called Grand Theft Auto gets served up the biggest 'intellectual property' theft in video game history.

Just don't make a copy of the game and give it to your friends. That would be illegal.
