So, these are the facts:
First, a new study comes out revealing 60% of Americans disapprove of the war.
Next, Leiberman loses thanks to his opponent pushing the idea Joe supports the war and the Bush administration.
Then, the terror alert level rises to severe, and a terror plot involving mixing liquids in a international flight is foiled.
Then, our press secretary tells everyone they should learn from this that when we oppose the war, we become complacent. He then accidentally reveals the president was going to raise the alert level before the plot was foiled, suggesting top officials were aware of what was happening at least a day in advance.
Now, every news channel on television is running terror coverage nonstop.
I don't know, but shit like this cracks my pot.

Welcome to the pleasuredome. Joe indeed supports the war and said so last week in a news conference. You can bet all your shekels that top officials knew what was going on, as these plots aren't foiled on a day's notice. It seems to me that we are in a 1984 type situation; Oceania is at war with Eastasia, Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia. Humanity has evolved right back to our basest levels of tribe kill tribe.
I suggest there is no end to the momentum now in place.

It would seem these terror alerts are being used to raise the current administrations approval ratings amongst disapproving citizens.
Ass kissing in politics is nothing new and neither is kicking the ass licker in the nuts for forgetting to wipe the shit off his face afterwards.

I just read they are making people dump their liquids into trash cans, and some are even being forced to pour them out as they do so.
Either the security personnel are stupid, or they don't actually fear possible explosives (which only work when mixed) mixing.

The best part of all this is how they planned to use an iPod as the detonator.
Security swooped down and confuscated everyone's Gatorade, cologne and breast milk, but no one is touching the holy grail of mp3 players.
I'm sure Apple executives have had a couple dozen meetings over the last 24 hours, and I'm sure a few hundred damage control phonecalls have been made as well.
Apple will probably have to create a new department to handle this PR trainwreck.

As far as I know, the Bush admin DID know in advance that it was going to happen, as Blair had discussed it with Bush and there was apparently a good amount of prior knowledge about it. Bush and friends have been using terror to further their agenda since 2001 and you can bet they are looking for events like this to boost their polls. I doubt they will, except maybe within a span of days. People are getting used to terrorism, for better or for worse, and its doubtful Bush's numbers will ever go back up again. So, it doesn't phase me, nor do I think it was a conspiracy of any kind besides the normal terror-alert fuckery that everyone should now be used to and expect. Its a good thing it was prevented.

Nobody really remembers the 80's. They don't remember the Iran-Contra scandal or listing of Nelson Mandela's ANC as a terrorist organization. Nor do they remember the FIRST war on terror or Afghanistan or anything that would give any relevence or background to our current situation. But the neo-cons don't have an absolute lock on electoral politics, and leiberman's (who is basically a neocon/neoliberal) situation is indicative of the way things are going (even though he could still easily win from republican votes). This november could be the biggest legislative shakeup since well before my birth.

There is no "revolution" nor will there be one, not in the classical sense. The generation that invented that rhetorical drivel failed to follow through on it, even if they acheived some significant victories in the 70's. Neo-con related policy never left the whitehouse, its only the degree to which they are willing to take political risks. Bush I was a little less hawkish than Reagan, Clinton a little less than Bush, but both were essentially Republicans with the same general principles save social policies(ie abortion). Bush certainly stepped things up and ruined Iraq and US public opinion, but he also inadvertantly slaughtered the Republican grip on politics.
But the relative level of political evil is the same, in general, its just the degree politicans dress it up. Clinton did it nicely. Bush doesn't seem willing or able to even appear caring about world opinion, let alone domestic opinion. Some of the things he did had good effects, like blowing up al-quaeda training camps. But other of his actions, specifically his treatment of Israel at the moment border on insanity. But political changes will happen as they always do, activism and participation. So vote in the november election.

Will they join in the fracas or just sit idly by as the world makes big things out of small fry and the world's population, resources and major holdings silently shift to the asian continent?
Petrochemical dependency, multinational banking and financeers, and protestant christianity versus the unwashed masses of musselman and arab-angst. In one sector you are successful if you can tune out the world and live in your aspen condo--in another you are king if you are killing thousands of infidels™.
We used to pride ourselves on coca-cola and McDonalds as the cultural equivalents of Polo and cricket; the colonialism that we marketed has failed miserably not just because it's shallow, but because we don't belive it ourselves. I think there would be a time and place in the distant future where non-profit-oriented belief will rise to the head and the rich fat fucks will be displaced by a surge of hippie scum.
And the hippies will be rich, the hippies will pay extra for their patchouli scented eco-friendly hybrid vehicles and fascist leaning social policies; and the mussleman will go along because they will appease their ancient superstitions in lieu of basic socialism.
