I don't know much about Mac’s, but this past weekend I was trying to help out a friend who got a new one and knows jack shit about computers at all. With my minimal skills I managed to figure out how I was supposed to create a disk image in case there was a need for restoration and then how to go about restoring it. I know Mac’s don't get viruses so their may not be a need, but my friend thought it was a good idea. When I went to make the image and save it to an external drive, I kept getting an error message almost immediately that said: Resources Busy. Nothing was running except the disk utilities.
Any suggestions, or is this just a flaw in the Mac programming?

Uh.
Firewire drives will do this from time to time, on a Mac. Is the file larger than the drives capacity? If it's a Lacy drive, it will only allow the file name to be so many characters long. Make sure it's under 18-20 characters or it won't copy.
Try making the disk image onto your hard drive, then copying it over to your firewire drive once it's finished saving. A lot of firewire drives that work with Mac are finicky about saving directly to them.
The resource busy error is telling you something - that the file is fucking enormous and it's not done archiving everything. A disk image isn't intended for multi-gig sized files.

If he was a ball-licker, I'm certain that my sac would be FAR more moist right now... |
