I was going over the statement that includes the RESP for my kid. It seemed to be under performing in the past so I was thinking of moving the funds into a higher risk/yield fund. Some math revealed that the fund is returning 16.27% before the government education grant, seems decent enough to me. Anybody else have any experience with RESP's? Could I be getting a better return?

That is a great ROI, seriously. The RESP financial vehicle is just both a government incentive and tax deferral rolled into one right?

It's exactly that. The kid gets the tax bill when he draws on it for schooling expenses. Because he'll be a student he's basically tax exempt.

Hey Guys,
I wanted to bump this thread back to life... Basically for one reason... To find the best vehicle to make my trades...
The more I read, the more iritated I get... Every major institutions seems to say "HEY! 9.99 a trade*"
*Minimum 30 trades per quarter! a.k.a Holy Fuck! Thats a lot of trades...
What I'm looking at right now... $29 flat rate up to $1000 shares... but when I do the math and look at the markets...it really feels impossible to make money as a little guy (and you wonder why stock brokers blow their brains out)...
on top of that, fellow swarmer Durdz was telling me:
When you buy stock from a bank, generally you are only "buying" stock they are already holding. So they say "sure you can hold onto this stock".
Then if you decide to cash out, they already had an "option in place" to sell at a better rate, so they make even more cash off you"
So I hate banks... and wondered.. Is there anyway a normal dude... can bypass all this bullshit and middle management of my monies?? |

Find a broker, sure they take a cut (and make sure its a straight percentage) but look at it this way . The more money you make, the more money they make. Although nowadays finding a broker that deals with the little guys is probably near impossible. My fathers friend handles all our petty peasant stuff.

So the market is about to take a kick in the testes, and inflation is on the rise, what gives?
Here are my modest selections:
Dang near any of the proshares short and ultrashort family of ETFs. I would underline the consumer goods, china, and japanese short funds.
On the protectionist side, streettracks gold seems to be the joint to hide out at, with some thinking commodities being a safe haven from the coming storm. I am interested in oil, uranium and any ethanol possibles (brazilian sugar and, regrettably, american corn). Uranium is a tricky biz, a lot of small players, Cameco is the industry leader but seems to be overvalued (so says the internets). Brazilian sugar is controlled by Cosan and corn-based ethanol's major player is Archer-Daniels Midland.
For those looking, I hope I can engender some sort of constructive discussion for those of us looking to protect our chips. |

Keep your life simple. I dont think there are any secrets, its the stock market, its like gambling.. "good luck" Just try to choose wisely and then leave it alone for 5 years and then look at it.Ok, maybe not 5 years, but dont mess with it give it a chance to work for you. You can get rich fast, but its rare. Just invest and let it grow. |

I've never really gotten out of the Market but I let my account lay dormant for a while after my long term holdings were just too depressing to look at. I have found a solution to this, open a new account!
With the Blood in the Streets I've decided to start playing with some short term investing using an online account with low trading fees so the in and out trade isn't too expensive. In the last couple of weeks I've been bargain hunting Financial stocks as they get hit with bad news and then rebound. I'm trying to be somewhat conservative taking 20-30% net profits where I can. I've also been toying with a couple of penny stocks for the pure thrill of it but finding it is hard to keep up with the timing and the depression between the days where nothing is happening and the day where they stock might swing 60%+ in a day.
What U Nignogs doing lately? Anybody trading?

I work for a trading firm and am studying for the Series 3 National Commodity Futures (& ForEx) exam on my own. I would love it if my penny stocks were actually worth a penny.
