To get high-speed internet in my area (Hattiesburg, MS) you have two choices.

1. Comcast Digital Cable = $65 a month without cable TV, $45 a month with $12 worth of basic cable.

2. Bellsouth DSL = $45 a month, but you have to also get phone service with them.

I saw a commercial the other day where people were talking about how much they pay, and most everyone said something like $20 month.

QUESTION: How much do all of you pay, and where do you live? I suspect we are being screwed around here.

I have Verizon DSL in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I think it's about $30 a month.

~$50/mo for cable in upstate NY. It's fast.

The only people I hear of paying $20/mo for broadband are using promotion deals in large metro areas.

^ what he said.

I am near SF, and use AT&T DSL. If I didn't have phone service woth them it would be $50/mo. By having phone service with extras and signing a 1 year contract, I am paying $20/mo. for "high speed" DSL.

$57 a month for Comcast cable. I average 3 meg download speeds.

Verizon DSL can suck my nuts if they think they will ever get my business again. Those faggits.

My employer has a deal going with the local cable company to provide high speed cable to all of its employees and off-campus students for $20 a month. Pretty sweet.

And it's stupid fast.

Adelphia ultra high speed DSL in Bangor, ME 53.00 without the cable TV. With expanded basic TV (does not include premium channels) the grand total per month is $96.00

The internet goes out frequently for up to 12 hours or more at a time and customer service sucks my old ass.

Verizon does offers an enhanced dial up service locally they say is “high speed" and phone service with Verizon is required in order to get this crappy service.

$43 for 6Mbit w/Comcast. I had SBC DSL previously, which was 1500/384 for $44.

Comcast cable may suck ass, but I hart my internets connection. I always get around 700-750kb/s when downloading from servers that can handle the traffic, and my upload averages right around 45k/s. I haven't gone even a single hour without service since I started with them 9 months ago.

With DSL, I was lucky to get a third of the max dl/ul speed, the modem resynched/timed out a couple times a day, and I frequently went without service for hours or sometimes a whole day. DSL can suck my butt.

Hrm. Well, thanks, I guess I don't have it as bad as I thought. Still, if I were to move 10 miles away in any direction, I would have no other option but 56k dialup, and 30 miles or more would be even slower.

Optimum Online coupled with their VOIP and digital cable service (HBO and Starz movie packages) runs about $135 or $140 a month. Damn fast speeds and only one outage this past year.

I had Adelphia at the last place I lived and it was horrible, down for days at a time and they always tried to blame it on my end of the connection. The installers were horribly unprofessional and the tech support was non-existant.

You've got it good. I have Comcast as well. I have the high speed internet plus the whole digital package for television. I pay $145.00 per month.

I hate Bellsouth. I have Vonage for my phone. I won't turn back to any hardwire dial-up with any phone company ever again. Once you go high speed it's so hard going back to dial-up.

P.S. I don't work for Vonage, but to anyone who's interested in switching their phone service, Vonage has the lowest price and the best service. They're wonderful.

Plus, because I make several calls to the U.K. and The Netherlands daily, my phone bill is less than a third of what it used to be. I also found out today that all of my U.K. calls are now FREE with my package.

I love teh net.

Used to pay 50 for cable plus 5 bucks for renting their crappy modem. W/ cable the bill was always around 100 dollars. FUCK THAT. I got a dish and Yahoo DSL (which upload/DL at the same fucking speed) and now pay about 76 bucks a month.
DSL alone is only 15 bucks. But i have to have a phone line to use it so the universal lifeline costs another ten. Fuck cable monopolies and fuck Sony.

We just switched to the Time Warner All in One package. $151 for Broadband,(Which the weifs company picks up part of the tab cuz she werks from home 2 days a week), Digital cable with 200 channels which includes on-demand service, and digital phone which includes free long distance.

So in essence I upgraded my phone and TV services and pay a little less.

I've got the Silver package from our local CableMonopoly. 512k UP / 3mb Down for $29.95 if you have basic cable.

This might seem like a total steal, but that package also includes 6GB month transfer (total! up and down!) which fucking sucks ass.
Don't worry though, they charge you for bandwidth overages in blocks of 10GB @ $10
