Recently I have observed people discussing use of the word "faggot", how is has joined ranks with asshole, cunt, jerkface, douche, etc. How did it get there, is it indicitave of some default tolerance to homosexuals that has built up over time? When I was a kid, calling someone a faggot was the opening salvo for a fistfight, now I frequently call my closest friends faggots, ass pirates, etc.
I was raised that all faggots wanted to rape little boys and that they are carriers for God's judgement against sinners (disease), oddly enough the rhetoric of hate diminished when an uncle kicked open the closet door. Since then I've come to my own opinion of the issue, but I will give it later.
Where do you stand on the issue of tolerance of gay people? Do they repulse you, are they sick, can they change, should they change, should we accept, is it natural?

Gay people don't bother me. Watching 2 guys kiss doesn't freak me out anymore as I have seen it just about every where I go. I still won't watch a gay porn but I will watch Broke Back Mountain. If I get hit on by a homosexual I get very uncomfortable but I don't get mad.
I don't think they should change. They are what they are.
Should we accept them? Not my call to speak for everyone. I accepted them but I think sociaty will never accept the homosexual community.
Is it natural? I say yes. I have heard people say "Animals don't do it so it isn't natural". But a dog licks his cock n balls and thats ok? If I suck my own cock"and I wish I could" I would be labeled as a fag.
I live in LA and openly gay is exceptable. I go to the gay parades in Belmont shores and party. Because thugs and gangs don't go to the gay community. Guess there scared or something.

I used to live in West Hollywood, had some gay friends, and definitely observed a class distinction of sorts among the homosexual population. It was only the lower tier that would bother me.. not out of judgment, more of thinking that they were big pussies.

I have no problem with homosexuals, what kind of sex that goes on between people who are past the age of consent is unimportant to me or any of my business. As for referring to any of the guys I hang out with as a faggot, no way, it’s an invitation to get punched in the face.

The closest thing our kids have to 'godparents' are a (female) gay couple, so I think it safe to say that we don't have a problem with it. I have shared houses with gay people of both sexes, and as long as they don't pressure me to play their way, they can live their lives however they want.
A persons sexual preference means nothing to me ( unless they prefer kids, in which case they are dead meat ), it is such a small part of their overall make-up that it fades into the background. I t is much more important to know if they are loyal or reliable or just a person I can get along with in a work or social setting.
Of course, I may be influenced by being born and raised in the first state in Australia, and possibly the world, to make homosexual activity legal.
As for calling people "faggot", that only happens here.

First my views: I don't give a shit about anyone's sexual orientation. Be as much of a fag/dyke/hetero/whatever as you feel the need to be is what I say, just don't force your ways on anyone else. The more tolerance society as a whole has to this and other such issues the better. If you have problems with homostyle you may have some sexual "issues" you haven't dealt with, you big faggo.
I believe homoism is more ok in society's eyes judging from tv shows like Will and Grace. I have more tolerance to it beause, I can proudly say, I am slightly less of an idiot that I was when I was 14. In high school homo was the worst thing to call someone, but then I used the word having no idea what homosexuality even really was, except that everyone else thought it was shameful and hideous (teenagers are all stupid cattle.)
As far as how the word homo appears now to be the same sort of meaningless insult as jearkface, I can only speak for myself: as I came to realize homos were people like everyone else I began to use the word as a way to make fun of hick attitudes. Much the same way I use the word Nigger.

Until recently our small office had 2 gay guys in it. The one "Yuppy" fag, and the college kid, baseball hat wearing fag.
The Yuppy harsh trash talks the other as "the gay guys that give gays a bad name" . Listen to one gossip about others, to me was pretty funny.

Knew plenty of openly gay kids in high school, including a close friend who had a crush at me at one point. I never had a problem with anyone's sexuality and stupidly let his crush freak me out and affect our relationship for a couple months till I realized I was being stupid and simply told him I wasn't interested and the friendship continued where it left off.
Know plenty of gays/lesbians/bis now too, including my roommate.
Calling each other gay and pretending to be gay around each other was always acceptable and considered funny growing up and is still pretty common. Nobody cares and it simply shows a level of comfort with each other in which nobody freaks out because their sexuality was "questioned."
I don't know that I've ever been friends with someone that would react violently or aggresively to being called gay.

I've been accused of being gay, a few times actually (OMG NO WAY?!). I know, you can't believe it. I say "accused" because it's usually some bullshit insult. As in, "Whatever, dude...look at the shirt you're wearing, you're obvioulsy a fag." :eyeroll:
It doesn't usually bother me that much, because I know it isn't true, and because it's the easy insult. It's easy because there's no way to disprove it; I could be fucking a woman in front of you, but calling me a fag is still designed to get me all flustered and defend myself with just how fucking amazingly heterosexual I am. I know I'm not gay because I come from a place where there are a lot of gay people. As an "enlightened" person, I know that it's something you're born with, and as such, I've contemplated whether I could be gay. In that sense that you might think, "Oh god...cancer can kill anyone! I could get prostate cancer, or lung cancer, etc!" I've thought, shit maybe I'm gay! I think about it for a second...and I realize that the thought of naked men is basically repulsive to me (not in the "kill fags" way; but consider this: do you find ugly women repulsive?). There is not the slightest thing arousing about a man. That being said, I don't care what gay people do in public, I've heard that argument. "Whatever, just as long as they dont' kiss / hold hands in public." As though there is some restriction like that on heterosexual people. I also believe that marriages should be recognized by the church and civil unions should be reconized by the state, and any two (or more, I guess) consenting adults should be allowed to be civilly united and afforded the same rights as hetero couples. They're just like us, except they wear sweater vests. |
