What is the best cover of a song you know of or have heard/made?
This would be one of my favourites. It was recorded in the early '80s by Aussie band Cold Chisel. This is a live recording of one of their farwell concerts, and is probably the only time they recorded this.
Post links to those you can share please.
( Sorry its fucking Rapidshare, but I don't know anywhere else to put it ).

I got "dub side of the moon" last week and I can't stop listening to it. It has to be one of the best Floyd covers done and is very good reggae in it's own right.
easy star all-stars - dub side of the moon

I have a Floyd cover album somewhere which has their songs arranged for symphony orchestra. Pretty neat, especially "Wish You Were Here" played on a harpsichord.
The Jeff Healy Band did a wicked cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on their Hell To Pay album.

I like Orgy's Blue Monday cover...I think it's a New Order song.
My favorite would have to be Tool's cover of Led Zepplin's 'No quarter'. TREMENDOUS!

shitbox: I like Orgy's Blue Monday cover...I think it's a New Order song.
Werd, awesome cover.
My faves:
1. Jane's Addiction covering The Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil". Perry is much more believable as Satan than Mick.
2. The Atari's covering Don Henley's "The Boys Of Summer". The Ataris are mostly bubblegum punk, but they wrap this one up nicely with all the right hooks.
3. Michael Buble covering The Drifters' "Save The Last Dance For Me". This guy's voice is amazing, and he gives this doo-woppy chestnut some sort of latin flair that just fuking works.
Floyd is perhaps my favorite band ever...I'm not sure that I'm ready to hear covers of their stuff. It broke my happy to hear that detestable Fred Durst fuk up "Wish You Were Here" at one or another of the post-9/11 benefit concerts. I wanted to remove his spleen with a boxcutter.
Seriously.

Crap. You took the best one. That's their best album in my firmly correct opinion.
Cowboy Junkies' cover of Bruce Springsteen's State Trooper springs to mind.
Type O Negative's cover of Angry Inch is rox0rs w/ fox0rs.

Your firmly correct opinion is, well, correct.

If you like that one, then CJ doing Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" has to get props in this thread.

This one surprised me. At first glance, totally not a JC song; but, again, it just fuking works.

I really liked JC's cover of Hurt...you can really feel the man's pain.
I have always enjoyed Primus' cover of XTC's 'making plans for nigel' too.

Joe Walsh doing Don Henley's "Desparado" (It's in fuking Real Media, but it's all I could find). I have only heard it once (on Howard Stern I think), but Joe did such a great job that it actually pissed Henley off because it was better than he had ever done.
I agree with Clavis on Floyd covers. I actually heard Ani DiFranco cover "Comfortably Numb" and I wanted to punch her in her ovaries for it.
Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt" was awesome.

1000 homo djs - supernaut (black sabbath)
kyuss - into the void (black sabbath)
love spit love - how soon is now (smiths)
melvins - lexicon devil (germs)
mindless self indulgence - tom sawyer (rush)
pantera - the badge (poison idea)
sepultura - procreation (of the wicked) (celtic frost)
system of a down - snowblind (black sabbath)
the sundays - wild horses (rolling stones)
type o negative - cinnamon girl (neil young)
i'd have to toss a coin between supernaut and snowblind.

Anybody ever hear that cd of Duran Duran covers done by all those cheesy mid 90's ska bands ? Some precious shit on that. I just recently got turned on to Richard Cheese, lounge covers aren't original but he's brilliant. Hey Ya alone is worth the price of admission.

Concrete Blonde’s cover of Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohen
It really pains me to say it but I don’t mind NickelBack’s cover of Saturday Night’s Alright
