So Sen. Joe Biden was a guest on Bill Maher's HBO show Friday night and came straight out and said he was actively seeking the Democratic nomination in 2008. It's been three days and I have not seen this information in any of the usual suspect sites.
I watched the episode and have to say I really know nothing about the guy but was very impressed as he explained the quagmire of Iraq/Middle East to a dumbfounded Ben Affleck who had to ask him to explain it again later in the show. In true Democrat fashion he never actually proposed any type of plan, but he did seem to have a firm grasp on the reality of the whole situation. If I were to hear more from/of him I may actually be inclined to vote Democrat depending on who he was running against.
Does this guy actually have a shot for the nomination against Hillary "I'm not running, even though I have a $60 billion war chest" Clinton? and who will he end up running against?

Biden has a good shot, that only gets better if Hillary GETS shot. I was hoping for Joe Leiberman to run again (he's the ONLY democrat that I would consider voting for) but I think the party is basically throwing him under the bus.

The top names on the other side of the ballot are Mitt Ronmey (current governor of Massachusetts), John McCain, and George Allen.

I've heard talk that if Hillary runs, Rice runs. If Hillary doesn't, then Rice doesn't. If Hillary does run, there is also purportedly going to be a smear campaign regarding their respective sexual histories. I have read that essentially Rice is flawless in her personal appearance and affect, which is (I would certainly guess) more than can be said for Hillary. In that sense, I can't say for sure whether Hillary would run, because I think it's possible that she could get stomped by Rice.
There's always talk of Obama, because he's a Clinton-like charismatic motherfucker, but I haven't heard anything from dude in a while. I'm wondering whether the Democrats (who are certainly running scared) would risk having a women or (gasp!) a black man run for president.
So in that sense, I would not be surprised about Joe Biden.

EDIT:

I was hoping for Joe Leiberman to run again (he's the ONLY democrat that I would consider voting for)

whaaaaa? You would vote for Lieberman??

I like Joe Lieberman. I've heard him speak several times and alot of what he says makes sense to me. He has a good grasp of the situation in Iraq and if you held a gun to my head and made me vote for a democrat, I would vote for Joe.

Now, on the other hand, I have given money to Al Sharpton's campaign, and would again. Anything that keeps that clown in the race for as long as possible is good to me.

I agree with the Hillary/Rice scenario. And I think Rice would stomp the shit out of Clinton. Rice would cover both the black vote and the women's vote. And if she ran, I think you'd see record turnout of black voters.

Is there some frightening difference between democrats and republicans -- like a generic rule you could apply to each party?

It seems most of the time people rarely consider the other party, and just vote the way they always have out of fear. I'm not voting for a woman, though. I'm too backwards for that.

I thought Liebermann was sort of defrocked of any real credibility a couple years ago. Perhaps that's just me sipping at the LOki koolaid.

McCain is an interesting dude. I like his transparency with the media. It was cool when he started pushing the no-torture thing with Bush, but I from what I could gather Bush's resolution was to employ weasel words redefining torture and classifying the new torture manual, so I'd really like to know how they resolved that together.

It'd be a neat stroke of lightning for a woman to win the presidency, though I think asking for a black one to boot is a little much. Besides, Rice has a serious case of buick-face, and I instinctively distrust every word out of her splayed garden-tool teeth.

Could anyone from the Bush administration have a non-laughable shot?

Lieberman is a non-entity at this point I think, he doesn't have enough pull in the DNC to get the nomination. He's one of my home staters and the guy's not a bad senator, especially when he's busy doing things other than legislating. I suppose that could describe the majority of politicians though.

McCain is interesting, but then again so was that guy from TN (not Gore, the other one...yeah, see what I mean, do you remember him?) Romney I wouldn't vote for, side effect of living next door to Taxachussets.

Obama has been very quiet since the convention, he may be the dark horse candidate, which would be really interesting if it was Rice opposite him.

Rice/Clinton would be interesting just to see who their running mates would be if they were the Presidential nominees. It would also be interesting to see if someone else beats me to Clinton.

vasudeva: Could anyone from the Bush administration have a non-laughable shot?

If you mean the current Bush administration, I say fuck no. Go back a couple years? Maybe Colin Powell, pre-Iraq-WMD address. Maybe.

As for the dems, Biden seems viable. Feingold has been pigeonholed as a lefty wacko because he called for censure (oooooo, so wacky), plus he's a jew, so there's no chance. I still like Dean a lot, but everyone thinks he's a screaming maniac. No thank you to Hillary or Kerry, and Lieberman is a Bush-fellating democrat-in-name-only. Gore should run. If you think that's funny, go find and read his last few speeches and see if you're still laughing.

Hells no.

vladtweano: Maybe Colin Powell, pre-Iraq-WMD address. Maybe.

Competent and would be an outstanding POTUS. Too smart to take the position.

Sadly, I know.

Stump: It would also be interesting to see if someone else beats me to Clinton.

It would be an all out mad dash my friend, to be the person to go down in history as the one who saved the US from the clutches of that insufferable bitch.

I can't tell you properly how much I hate Lieberman. The man is basically a neoconservative, with no more regard for human life or international law than Bush. I respect Tom DeLay infinitely more than I respect Joe Lieberman.

McCain is interesting, but then again so was that guy from TN (not Gore, the other one...yeah, see what I mean, do you remember him?) Romney I wouldn't vote for, side effect of living next door to Taxachussets.

I used to think McCain was "interesting" but the reality is that most of the time he is walking lock-step with the Republican administration on most issues. He gets credit for asking some tough questions at time, but the man's voting record is about as conservative as the hard righters and his bullshit CF reform initiatives are the largest failures in recent memory.

Gore should run. If you think that's funny, go find and read his last few speeches and see if you're still laughing.

For whatever reason, the man's charisma seems to have tripled as soon as he got out of office. If he won when he was such a dick there's no doubt that he could take it now.

Obama isn't running, to all appearences. Hillary probably is, and I hate her. I suspect the same thing about Rice and Hillary. Jeb, Guiliani, Gingrich and McCain seem to all be candidates, but its hard to tell because the RNC is clearly holding their cards until they make their pick. McCain won't get an endorsment, neither will Guiliani, unless a running mate. I don't know where this is going to go, but in a couple months the picture should be clearer.

I don't want Hillary to run, not because she's not smart (she is) or competent (she is), but because I think she's destined to lose.

For fun, let's play Deconstruct the Conventional Wisdom. Please identify the reason(s) why Hillary is an insufferable bitch. Use examples, show your work and point out why exactly these reasons would lead to a situation from which the country would need saving.

For extra credit, do the same thing for Al Gore and Howard Dean. For Gore, substitute "giant liar" for "insufferable bitch". For Dean, use "dangerous angry maniac".

I ask this not to defend Hillary, but as a part of a long-running inquiry I've been conducting since the mid-90's regarding what it is about the name "Clinton" that makes people lose their shit.

I think everyone here is forgetting that Bush will not allow his term to end. If he doesn't figure out some way to over power the rule and stay as president (War In Iran - Special Messures)

I hear he saw "V for Vendetta" and thought Supreme Chancellor had a nice ring to it!

He secretly hopes to blow up the Brittish Parliament as well.

My opinion- Obama is running. Everybody wants him to. He's already built a legislative record of calling out Bush. The Dems need him.

I vote in California so my vote doesn't matter. I voted for Al Sharpton last election. He's a really funny guy. You just say he's a nut because he's black, he has funny hair, and he tells it likes it is.

hmmm well theres always the potential that Gore will run again, a former aide of his said he is considering it. However if i could have anyone run for either party i would want Colin Powell. It kills several birds with one stone. One it brings a former military personal to run the war. second it brings in a colored person. Thirdly he is actually widely respected across the country. Which um i dont think we have had since Clinton (pre monica era) Gore i can see be tossed around and mocked as a cry baby. Mrs Clinton, well im not gonna get to deep into this one, but i intend to get a bumper stick that says run Hillary run, and ill put it on the front of my car so she can see exactly what she must do to avoid me hitting her. However on a serious note to the question I see McCain gettin the republican nomination and for the dems, well anyones guess is as good as mine, ive heard so many different names thrown around but when the dusts settles i beleive it will be and this is a hypothetical if these ppl run, That it will come down to a close vote b/w Hillary and Gore, with Gore nudging her out slightly, but with much bashing. but then again where Ross Perot when u really need him

Regarding the subject matter, I just want someone to dispel the bullshit laws, expose a few consipracies and get the country back on its feet financially.

Obama - charismatic and intelligent, but is he smart? can he do the right thing (tm)?

Clinton - I am actually very hopeful. You know the budget will be balanced and the gears will be oiled well

McCaine - huge letdown this year/last year, the guy got beat down and, basically, hoed out

Lieberman - too much of a pointless weasel to actually accomplish anything

Powell - would do well, but is currently in too much self-deprecation and whiskey

Don't know much about Biden. Can someone fill me in, please?

Fuck Powell, he was a tool then and he's a tool still.

I no longer respect McCaine, he is toeing the party line enormously. I feel it's highly possible he makes a big deal about being the independent Republican because it's an image that sells well.

I have reservations about Obama. For some reason I heard he was a big hawk, prior to his senatorship. Did anybody else here this?

For what it's worth, in mid-'80s Florida, in some highschool civics class, the term 'colored' was the phrase du jour, used in textbooks and thus by everyone, at least in class. This was in a highschool which was probably 75% black. I've seen a couple hints that it's now out of favor amongst the community of Color, and thus racist. I'm not up on which term is considered PC these days, but it predates "African-American" for sure, which I think was an late-'80s/early-'90s tool to calm the enraged masses.

Eventually I expect "African-American" to fall out of favor and be considered poor taste as well.

Chances are I will once again consider all of the candidates whiney douchebag-retards who aren't worthy of a flaming bag of dogshit on their front step. I'll also most likey remain unable to see a major difference between these candidate's platforms, and will then proceed to laugh and scratch my head as they manage to polarize all of you idiots anyway.

I love the two party system BECAUSE IT GIVES US CHOICES!

I'd vote for Clinton if she let Bill secretly run everything.

Either way, I'm predicting that the Republicans will win, because they have the Conservative right vote no matter what, and just have to choose someone who opposes Bush to bring back the rest of the Right. And Bush could get reelected in this country, a dead fish could run on the Rep ticket and still win.

The Democrats won't win still they stop being complete fucking pussies.

So my wife and I were chatting last night and she thinks that Oprah should run for President in 2008. Then makes a firm statement that if she did run, she would win by a landslide.

My response: She would never win!

My Wife: Oh please! Every woman in America would vote for her... Women outnumber men you know... She'd force some changes for the better...

blah blah...

comments?

The wife says that Oprah has facilitated the capture of pedophiles?? Have we heard much about this?
