Some of you may remember this link way back when. Paris Hilton used the word nigger and everyone shit their pants.
I did up this image in response:
And thought no more of it, until a few months ago I started noticing hits against it in my logs. Not just from here and there, like normal, but coming a lot from a single place: some site called SmartMarks. I check it out and it seems to be a WWF-discussion place. "Great," I think. "Someone there enjoys nigger jokes." Then I went on about my business.
But I kept noticing these hits, day after day, and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't see the image being posted on those forum pages. So I went and signed up and dug around a bit and then noticed some dude had the Paris image I made as his avatar.
So every time he posts to a thread, and every time someone reads that thread, that image gets pulled from my box.
Well, it's Valentine's Day, and mod_rewrite exists.
Now, every time anyone reads one of his posts, they see this instead:
To add sugar, I went through my logs, and was able to figure out his IP from when he accessed the image from his user control panel. That IP gets redirected to a copy of the old image, so everyone else sees the black dudes loving black dudes, and he sees what he expects to see.
I'm going to try and keep an eye on the threads at that site to see if it engenders even a tiny event, but I'll probably forget about it as soon as I've eaten lunch.
