Last night around 10pm or so on a Sunday I posted my resume to these two sites. I wake up this afternoon and I already have 12 e-mails in my inbox from various companies. The odd thing is i specifically tailored my resume for the hospitality/food and beverage industry and only one of these companies is in that industry. How many Swarmers have used online resume dumps like these and have you actually gotten good results from them? (I already know some of you have used Dice, but I'm talking non-specific job sites, Dice is tailored for tech jobs) I don't want to get bombarded by phone calls and e-mails from crap companies looking for cannon fodder in a MLM scheme. If I wanted that I'd go see about re-enlisting.

Used both in the thread title, and I don't recall that much spam, but this was years ago, and there were definitely emails from people who presumably set up spiders to crawl the sites and then spam users with irrelevant job offers, probably using AI to efficiently ignore keywords.
Also, never had a shred of luck with either. To date, I've gotten every job I had because I knew someone who knew someone who was interviewing.

Studies show that those who use a lower-case "i" when referring to themselves have a low sense of self-worth.

I've used both Monster and Career Builder and all you get are the crappy jobs that you didn't even want, or that are just plain scams. If you are seriously looking for a job, find a copy of "What Color is Your Parachute?". Its been the number 1 job hunting book for years now and there's a reason for it. If I can get a job using it then anyone can.
So far you are on the right track. You know what area you want to work in and you have a resume prepared. Now you need to find out at what level you can or want to work at...Entry? Manager? Its up to you and your resume/experience.
Next step, start talking to everyone you have ever known that might be able to refer you to a job. Don't just call up or email and be like, "Hey can you get me a job", you need to use some social engineering skills. Give it a month of chit chat then drop in somewhere that you are looking "real hard" for a job and its killing you. Don't ask them for anything. Let them offer their help to you. If you have alot of friends with whom you already have good continued relationships with, then ask for their help ASAP. Remember, anyone you have ever met is a contact, use them. If you are part of an alumni association then get in contact with them. If you are a member of any group use those contacts. Don't join the masons. Or scientology. Both are a bunch of people who are doing the exact same thing you want to do, which is leech info from people with influence. At the bottom level both groups are a bunch of used car salesmen.
Now you have to find a place that you want to work. Check out their web site for job postings. Find posting that you like. DON"T APPLY right away. See if you have a contact that can get your resume on the right persons desk ASAP. Most of those online apps for big co's just send your resume to a database that HR searches through, kinda like google only with more N00bs a fucktards. If you don't know anyone there go ahead and apply. Then try and talk to whomever might be the direct report of that position (call the secretary/receptionist and ask to be connected to whomever, use honey not vinegar). If you can get a call in to the person who has the last say on who to hire for your wanted position and you can show your interest and enthusiasm they just might get your resume to HR or the hiring manager. Thats step one.
Interviews and haggleing over salary come last. Remember first person to mention money loses. They make the offer. You are interviewing them, and a whole bunch of other cliches that are cliches for a reason. Remember to get taht book I mention, try the library if you're short on cash.
Last tidbit of advice, keep at it! Its long and hard and a pain in the ass if you don't already have a job, cause you have no bargaining chips to rest on. But keep up the social engineering and you will get something eventually.
Good Luck on you job hunt.
Sorry the post is so long. I just know how much it sucks to hunt for a job.

Diogenes, go fuck a tard and call it you!
I would try to find a place that has employment offers and then apply to them.
Instead of hoping that a hungry recruiter has an opening they are trying to fill and they fine ME! oh SPECIAL FUCKING ME! and get me my dream job.
The best that would happen is a mediocre job that beats unemployment.
So you say foodservice hospitality? there must be a few areas: idiot search..
http://www.restaurantjobs.hcareers.com/seeker/?type=ppc&source=google&vert=reus&pk=food+and+beverage+job
http://www.foodindustryjobs.com/
And try google base, you never know.
The fact is that you find the job, not that the job finds you.

Diogenes: Nowhere in there did it state that one-line drivel was a bannable offense.
so now you're pulling the 'rules card' or something?
look, i know you think you're clever and badass, but all you've done so far float a ton of forum posts to the top with pointless comments. if you can't understand how stupid bullshit like that isn't really appreciated (and if it's all you can contribute) then maybe you're in the wrong place (goto: FARK).
you can be stupid or boring, but both is unnacceptible. so far, you're 2 for 2. please prove me wrong. please.

Thanks SFW, my problem is I've got almost 9 years invested in food and beverage and there's shit for jobs around. Without a degree I may have to give it up and find a way to get retrained, I put off going back to school because I was managing places without a degree and in the F&B industry if you manage a place it takes up most of your time. I may check the book out anyway.
So far I've gotten one e-mail from a chain restaurant and a phone call to sell insurance plus a bunch of auto-response type things from mlms.
