Fellow Swarmers,
I have been haveing all sorts of phun with this old ass site called
www.mod-x.com
Its not neccisarily "hacking" cause you don't ever really hack into anything. You mainly solve little riddles like find the password to that this nigga-script is looking for, or decode this ASCII shift encoded message or whatever.
I was wondering if anyone had ever done that site before? Its really for complete n00bs who can't even compile the jepegofdeath.c file. I find it a good place to start.
Anyone else?
Also, just wondering if all you techtastic pimps and ho's out there would like to just talk security, penetration, cracking, viruses (vas) and or any other shit that people just throw under the bus of "hacking".
Here are my less than 1337 skills
- VBScript
- HTML, nigga-script, etc etc, you know...like crappy web page codeing
- Telnet
- WEP cracking (in linux)
and that's about it.
I've never even written the smallest of viruses before. And yes I am one of those idiots who couldn't get jpegofdeath.c to compile in MSVC++ using its c# compiler. Why for the love of god can't it ever find windows.h??? Anyhew, just a thought.
BTW - Dumbskull is at the head of the RAD FACTOR list for right now. LK? Wuts up with that!?!?!

Compiling a C program with Visual C++ in C#??? How did you fuck up so badly?
You understand the C# isn't C or C++ and like J++ to Java has enough differences to fuck up whateva u are doing with it. But I digress you obviously don't even know how to make a project correctly.
NEW Projects / (General)Empty Proj / Add source should do it. Don't use default project builders as you get a bunch of headers that you won't use and won't understand.

Sorry I misspoke. I was using MSVC++ because it has a feature that will compile in C (not C# or C++) this being the correct language because of the suffix of ".c" for the jpegofdeath.c file. I tried compiling with a different app, some freeware thing, and it didn't werk. There's a header that says something like "#Pragma WS2_32.lib" which sorta makes it so you can only really use MSVC++ or MSVC with the SDK platform, which has like every header you ever need. However, I still get on fatal error "cannot find windows.h" not matter how much I try to force it to find that file...I still get the error.
Oh well.
Mod-x is fun though.

I know what l0ft is!!  I've played with that before. I even ran rainbow cr@ck so I had a huge list for bruteforcing. Anyhew...
I still read Phrack every once in a blue moon. They are mostly into phreaking and some shit you have to have an electricians license to try now though. Not so much on the easy for n00bs there. I like hackaday! They have a nice hodgepoge of hacks that range from the useless to the fun to the naughty, however they are slowing down a bit. Suck-o is good. As well as alot of other sites. Also, went through the old Anarchists Cookbook. Nice but dated, not to mention I don wanna blow stuff up. And there is alot about blowing stuff up in there.
As for viruses, I could write some simple crappy v!rus but I wouldn't know what to do with it. I don't actually want to screw anyone's computer up and that's all I know how to do so far. It's be kewl if I could get better at taking over friends computers or pulling stupid pranks like warning messages that read the day's headlines...in punjabi. I really need to learn C++.
Knowledge is what I seek. Cuz I'm too pretty to go to jail.
As for the ol jpegofdeath source, I just wanted to see how a jpeg could hold extra info that would eploit an MS vulnerability. (Even that was written in 2004!!) But now it seems like everything is patched and semi-secure, so I wanted to crack the can open and see how the magic box werked. Actually, I was wondering if I could encode extra info into a bitmap or jpeg that would act as a sort of DRM. Say a DVD-R would auto load an app that wouldn't let you access the rest of the film without the correct key from a placard WARNING image that most DVD's start/autoplay with. But the key can only be decrypted by an add on that we send out at the start of the month. That way we could cut down on the whole security stuff with DVD-R's that go out to clients and vendors for viewing.
I really do all this so I can be more efficient. See I'm very lazy. I like to automate bits/most of my job. With hacking you learn alot and have fun too. Especially with the wargames cuz there's no prison bars awaiting you at the end of the exploit. And Mod-x is just easy enough to keep me hooked but not make me all afwaid of the bigger an meaner/real hackers out there.
Lastly, who is Fravia? A swarmer? I wouldn't want to bother someone I didn't know at all. What if they Clavised me?!?!

Ok that is one huge web of pages. But it seems like alot of work to go through to avoid spammers. Why not put some script in the page source that would cripple the spider? Or is that illegal?

type jpegofdeath.c source into google and you'll find the code published on a french security site. However the education value of shit like that is questionable. Honestly you won't learn anything from looking at any buffer overflow code unless you understand what a buffer overflow is and what all those data packets are.
Why not tried to find out about injection attacks like the one used here a few month ago

I can look into injection attacks.
I got the .c file but MSVC++ still can't find winows.h!!! Even after I did all that stuff in the microsoft link you put up there. Shoul I compile using another app? Borland? DevC? Oh well.
I'm done with my n00btastic crap for the night. Try try again on the gright I say.

Anyways, on to another excursion. The WMF exploit seems interesting. Still can't get shit to compile in MSVC++. Yes you can compile .c files in VC++. It gives me errors for any header file that has specifically to do with windows. Should I try using the full version from 2003 with the SDKP? I'll give it a whirl.

Asking for help compiling exploits is so common a lamer tactic that it's specifically mentioned in any number of FAQs as a "don't do this" option. I point this out because self knowledge is the ultimate key to power and information wants to be free lal.

I haven't played this game (or even looked at it) - so this "game" actually has you compiling and running C programs that are supposed to perform some hacking activity? Sounds boring.
You might get a lot more out of it if you just studied C# or something.

You're just a noob, is all. Everyone starts somewhere.
Old-school tech types aren't cranky when you ask your questions because they were born already knowing what you want to know, but probably rather because they had to figure it out for themselves and resent anyone devaluing that by shortcutting the process and asking for a hand-holding. When you encounter this reaction, lurk more and post less -- not just on LS, and not just literally.
As far as this site goes, I think an interesting part of it is that the people who are into this kind of stuff have left the breathless post-every-discovery phase long ago. The people who aren't interested always have the option not to read anything in the Technology forum. I reject out of hand the notion that you owe all disinterested parties the privilege of finding your every thread interesting. That's how things become bland and pointless. It will, however, be a bright, bright and sunshiny day when your training wheels come off and your balls finally drop.

To begin with, I THINK HACKING THREADS ARE DANDY.
And who gives a fuk if I hated them conversely. I don't expect what's posted on this site to cater to my individual taste. LS stands on it's own merits and if I don't like it I don't have to punch it into my keyboard.
The "hacker fag" pic I posted could have been posted in a diffrent forum thread in another context. I just thought it would be funny to goof on SFW and qwerty and "hackers" in general, business as usual for me. HAHA, or so I thought. Then (karma) after SFW's response, I saw an opportunity to try to answer some questions I've had about his identity. I wondered about the all around motive of an individual who continually keeps coming back to a community that for the most part refuses to accept him. After seemingly getting the answer to my questions, I came to the conclusion that for all intents and purposes, SFW had intentionally set out to be an annoying prick. Not to say that I haven't witnessed some valid contributions from him but MY opinion over an EXTENDED period of time is: horrible garbage. In retrospect, I was reacting to his entire "body of work" and not just the "hacking wars or whatevs" thread that he created (which just so happens to be fairly worthwhile).
I'd be lying if I said that I don't have high expectations for people here. Maybe I'm talking out of turn and don't have the right to pass judgement on other people ...but there's been so many times I've read something here and been completely blown away with a myriad of emotions, humor mostly. I want to believe we all try to inspire that feeling in each other in big and small ways sometime or another. I take offense when I feel like someone is abusing the awesome freedom we have here to write anything or be anyone. At the same time, I need to constantly hold myself up to the same standard that I set for others. My intention was to point out that, at the very least, we should be accoutable for what we write here, some of us more than others.
