I'm going to buy an album from the following bands and would like you motherfuckers to help me choose which ones I should get as a first time listener.

Judas Priest
Faith No More
Iron Maiden
Jetho Tull
Zappa (only have a few and there are lots)
Pixies
Good metal

-which are worth buying? which are crap? I know you motherfuckers have an opinion on this. If you'd like to suggest other bands in the genre feel free. I need new music. Your suggestions would be apeciated.

I'll have to go through my collection at home to make any more recommendations, but for Jethro Tull, Aqualung is a no-brainer.

And what's more -- didn't you know that all music is free now?
Get them all.

I swear I get no kickbacks from my repeated suggestions to go to Easynews.com. $9.98/month for 20 gigs. More music, movies and porn, warez, utilities, games than your hard disk can hold. My DSL pro gives me 348 kb/sec, I can download 100 MB in 6 minutes. The little woman is stuck in time, I just got 5 old Pink Floyd albums in half an hour.

Try it, you won't regret, everybody is a leech and they have a very strict privacy policy, don't even keep logs to be subpoenad.(sp?)

Definitely, closely followed by Broadsword and the Beast. For an alternative, try Uriah Heep- either Return to Fantasy or Fallen Angel are good, but there are plenty more.

Acheron: Faith No More

Angel Dust. One of the best albums ever, bar none. The one just before this is very good, too, though less brilliant. King for a Day, the one after this, was disappointing. At one point, Courtney Love was the singer for the band, and then came Chuck Mosely, who sang for Bad Brains for a very short while. Don't let the Courtney Love thing throw you off though.

Then try Mr Bungle, a side project. Start with the self-titled album (everything before is dicy at best). Then get California. In a year's time, you'll want to kiss every letter I'm typing. But you won't be able to, cause they're just pixels on your screen.

Iron Maiden

Number of the Beast. Somewhere in Time. Powerslave.

Iron Maiden are one of the few bands of that era that I still love unashamedly and without hesitation. Who else writes songs about fighter pilots, Alexander the Great, and Greek myths? Bruce Dickinson is now flying Boeing 757s for a commercial airline in England.

Zappa

Can't get into Zappa. LOki and Vlad have tried, but it won't stick. They can probably get you in the right direction, assuming they ever see this thread.

Pixies

Any of their albums, though Tromp Le Monde is my favorite by far, and probably also the one album least like their others.

Good metal

First three Megadeth albums. Anything Metallica did before "the black album." Iron Maiden. Queensryche were usually pretty respectable. Nuclear Assault and MOD and SOD and King Diamond for fun. There was a really good and wierd band called Voivod who put out an album called Nothingface -- angular and sciencey and strange. If you can find a copy, make me one too?

EDIT: Easynews == YES.

So much to choose from. For a primer, I guess I'd suggest Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation or Hot Rats.

Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East or British Steel
Tull: Aqualung (duh) or Thick as a Brick

Slayer Reign in Blood I think is a must have for a good eighties metal collection.

Rigor Mortis v.s. The Earth is pretty good as well.

Judas Priest

british steel is a no brainer. i got screaming for vengeance from the library and played it like nonstop for a week. i've heard stained class is good, but i don't recall ever hearing it.

Faith No More

angel dust, definitely. i liked album of the year a lot, too.

Zappa (only have a few and there are lots)

i got strictly commercial (best of) and stopped there.

Pixies

any, but i second trompe le monde. doolittle is also a sure bet.

Good metal

metal varies a lot. it really depends on what you like: thrash, grind, death, gothic, prog... a lot of the bands i like border the line between metal and hardcore.

nothingface (one; two) is one of my favorite bands; they took their name from the voivod album. an audio guide to everyday atrocity is probably their best. error in excellence from the first link is on that album.

mastodon is worth checking out. i would probably go with leviathan over remission, but they're both great albums.

lamb of god (also here, although you'll need to click into the address bar after the error and press enter to get the page to load... and there's an embedded video down the page you'll want to stop so you can hear shit right)

36 crazyfists (also here); bitterness the star is their best album.

bloodbath - old skool style death metal supergroup; both ressurection through carnage and nightmares made flesh are awesome.

the agony scene, sentenced, god forbid, chimaira, edge of sanity, prong , testament, sepultura, pantera...

Judas Priest:

I think the only album that I listenend to on a regular basis from JP back when I was mulletfied, was Painkillers. I really liked that album.

Faith No More:

Album of the Year was BY FAR their best album. The Last Cup of Sorrow was such a bad-ass song.

Iron Maiden:

Somewhere in Time & Powerslave absolutely defined a generation in rock.

Jethro Tull:

Never cared for.

Zappa:

Who?

Pixies:

FU

Good Metal:

Dude, there are hundreds of 80/90's metal that kills anythign out today, as far as metal.

Metallica:

Master of Puppets or And Justice for All

Megadeth:

Peace Sells...But Who's Buying was good. But, Rust in Peace was their best in my opinion.

Pantera:

Cowboys from Hell is the best, then The Great Southern Trendkill. Anything before Cowboys from Hell is Hair Metal and that's bad.

Opeth:

Blackwater Park

Sevendust:

Any album rules.

Tool:

Any album rules.

Flaw:

Cannot go wrong. CANNOT.

Whatever you do, stay away from hair metal.

Live After Death is a pretty good Iron Maiden album, as far as songs go.
The quality leaves something to be desired, though.

reading that made something stir in my pants...I thought I was the only one that listened to Nuclear Assault.
Also try: metal church-blessing in disguise, DRI-four of a kind, watchtower-control and resistance, and anything from pro-pain
