I might be the only athlete around here to have a collegeiate career (although I think LuckyLuciano played football at Penn St). Not that I'm bragging, because I'm really not very good, I just have to say that because it makes this make even less sense: I really hate watching sports. A lot. Watching baseball or basketball on television? Why not kick yourself in your own taint? |

I'd love to start a LS fantasy baseball or football league (next season, obviously). Check in here if you want in. It'll have to be some free league, mainly yahoo. If you know of any better ones than yahoo, let's hear them now.

I just looked it up, Nocal's Personal Bests:
60mH - 8.43
110H - 15.19
I dunno jack about track. Is that good?
I really hate watching sports. A lot. Watching baseball or basketball on television? Why not kick yourself in your own taint?
I agree, somewhat. I DO like watching sports but I can't watch games that I don't have an interest in. That might not make sense... lets try this:
I can't watch sports that are about individual players like golf, nascar and track (unless it's the olympics, then maybe). Most sports are boring, but they are made exciting when you have a rooting interest in one team or another.
How/why does one develop such a rooting interest?
Sports teams, like websites, can develop and foster a strong sense of community. When you go to a Yankee game, the fans are nuts, but everyone in the stands is there together (insert gay solidarity crap). I can go to away games in Baltimore and I am instantly buddies with every other Yankee fan within earshot. It gives us common ground.
Sort of like our Basketball team. Have you ever gone to a game, nocal? The fans are going nuts, it's a great atmosphere.
It's self-perpetuating, our families and friends bring us into that community, and it's the spirit and camaraderie of it that keeps us in.
Sports are also a "safe" topic of conversation. When you want to talk to someone you don't know and they are decked out in Phillies gear, you know that by mentioning how much Ed Wade sucks they'll have a response.
Then again, some people just like to gamble.
PS -- I'd do fantasy baseball and MAYBE football, but I usually stop giving a shit after two weeks when my team isn't killing everyone.

I picked a pretty shitty time to drum up this forum. There are no professional/fantasy sport leagues starting right now. I'd rather stay the course for a full season.
If'n we do decide to play fantasy football, we should do a buy-in league and award prizes to the winner/afc/nfc champions. Sound good? We could have vasudeva hold the money in escrow since he cares nothing for sports.

I don't think we should get into cash/prizes our first time out. Let's just try it out this time and get our feet set with nothing at risk.
I don't know much about actually starting a league in yahoo, nor much about the specific types one can get, like head-to-head matchups or the points system way of going at it. This season is my first time doing the football, and last baseball season was my first time doing that too. I'm in a head-to-head matchup type of league right now just like I was in the baseball one, and I like it. If anyone else wants to go a different route, let's explore that now.
I'll research more on it and start a sign-up thread when next season rolls around. We need more people here, at least six or more. Step up, assholes.

I've only ever done the head-to-head type myself. They're fun. It makes more than just the quality of your team matter, its how good your team is compared to that week's opponent.
Then again, Fantasy Sports are all about the draft. After that it's all over anyway.
Unless you wanted to do a salary cap league. Then again I'm not that into it.
I AM nerdy enough to be interested in doing a keeper league, where you can carry a certain number of players over to the following season. It adds an extra "zing" to the game. |
