The biggest complaint I'm hearing about this movie is that there wasn't enough action. Okay, if you want to go see a war movie with lots of combat and battles and guys getting blown away and shit, this one is not really for you. I know enough about the reality of this to be able to say this is probably the most accurate war movie regarding recent events (yes this one is about the Gulf War, but it holds true to the current one as well). That war, and this one, is not always exciting. These guys sometimes go months without doing anything but whacking off, dwelling on whether or not their wives/girlfriends are being loyal, and burning cans of nasty bug-riddled feces. War isn't pretty, and that is still true even when you are nowhere near the enemy. I think it was pretty well done and I'm curious about the book, I bet it's even better. Hollywood did a decent job this time, for what it has to go on. The acting was right on by the guys, the direction was great, and the narrative was polished very well. I've seen how these guys behave with each other, the lingo they use, just the way they are - and I think this movie is pretty damn close. Don't worry, you'll have some laughs with this one too. It's not too depressing until you hear the very last line of the movie. See it, beotches!

I read"Actually heard from CNN" it wasn't mainly about the war. It was supposed to focus on the mental state of the soldiers at certain times of battle and what not. I'll wait till DVD cuz I'm a cheap nigger.

I look forward to enjoying this, since it secretly doubles as high-gloss porn for gays who hanker for "action."

Do you mean the movie or all military in general?

I want to see it too. Sam Mendes is a good director.

since my last post i've became a marine, and have been in for 6 months now, wow it's been 6 months since i've been on. Anyways, it's pretty dead on how we act and all, and the mental states are pretty acurate also, but being a marine I also think that it needed more action, but given the name all marines will see it no matter what the reveiws are because most marines can't even read.

Excellent. Here's a question. Are you tired of hearing people in marine movies go OOOH-WA or HOOO-YAH all the time? I the fuk am. In America's Army, in the training mission, when you hit the target, sometimes the instructor will go "You really put the hoo in HOO-WA!"

Don't get me wrong -- I think it usually sounds pretty stupid no matter what. But I spent three years in Camp Lejeune and I'm pretty sure it's being mangled by Hollywood.

'ooo-rah' is so gratingly annoying that i find its inclusion in the trailer highly unfortunate. that being said, i'll probably check this out at some point.

marf: please compare and contrast to the awesomeness that is 'three kings'

oh, and donnie darko is SO DREAMY.

I think "LOLOLOLOL" should be the new OOH-RAH. Actually I think the ooh-rah, hooh-rah, hut-hut-hut etc thing varies between branches. I haven't read Jarhead but I'm reading a good one about the current war, if you want to know how things are NOW rather than how they were 15 years ago, g'head and pick it up: It's called "The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell - An Accidental Soldier's Account of the War in Iraq" by John Crawford. "AT EASE, SOLDIERS! " LOLOLOLOL". I'm sorry, but that would be funny.

LOLOLOL - oh wait, that's oorah hoorah blah blah now... Anyway, Three Kings is so rigahdamndiculous, When it comes to accurately portrayed war movies, Three Kings is to the Gulf War what Young Frankenstein is to Saving Private Ryan. Yeah, it's that absurd. I know mund wouldn't have brought it up unless he knew I would say this, so there ya go, my good man. LOLOLOLOL. Wanna abandon a mission and go hunt for secret G000000LD??

I did, and it's nothing like the movie. The book is all stream of conciousness type stuff. Very good, tho.

this movie is on my list of things to see, seeing that the same director that did american beauty did this too. expecting some interesting characters/character development and brutal honesty where it's neither appropriate nor expected in usual life. or something along those lines.
