There is one piece of technology mankind has invented that will always remain sexiest, even above the Japanese pistonfucker robot. The pinnacle of what our species is capable of. An achievement of design and mechanics that may well never be topped. I refer, of course, to the SR-71.
I can't even believe how cool they are. If a ninja ever needed an airplane there is no way he would ever settle for less than this one right here. Top Gun was a cool movie and all but they still were flying buicks compared to this slick machine right here. Wouldn't you love to have one of those parked in your driveway?
The SR-71 "holds the record for fastest and highest flying manned aircraft with air-breathing engines. The aircraft could fly faster than Mach 3 at more than 90,000 feet." Construction season means nothing to these, they just fly right over before you even realize there were cones. But wait, how do you learn how to fly one? Well just catch up on some light reading. An entire manual dedicated to operating ultimate awesomeness. It might even help SexNinja, who can say for sure? I mean come on, you gotta respect the A-10's and I can't take anything away from that, but there's just nothing cooler than SR-71s and you should go right now to find out all about SR-71s. Like right now. Imagine if your commute looked like this!
If you're not totally psyched up right now then you should go get some kind of checkup! |

fucking a dude!
the sr-71 is so awesome that not even these queers can tarnish its image:

the sr-71 is so badass it was designed to leak fuel before it takes off because the friction it routinely encounters makes the panels expand so much.
i know it looks pretty, but don't touch. its surface is 300 degrees when it lands. and i ain't even talking fahrenheit, bitch.
look, i love the warthog too. i mean, that fucker can fly missing an engine, not to mention carrying a gun that could knock itself out of the sky... but if you absolutely, positively need to get there on time, only mach 3+ speeds will do.
that's what i call real ultimate power.

It flies so fast that the skin of the plane gets really hot. Like, really ultimately powerfully hot.
So hot, they have to account for heat expansion. Essentially they had to build them to fit properly when hot. This of course meant that they did not fit properly when not hot.
You can see the fuel streamers shining on the inside wings in that top picture. That's where the plane just took off a little earlier, and the skin plates were still cool, not expanded yet, and there were cracks the fuel could leak out through.
AND HOW COOL IS THAT? HUH??? |

It was my understanding that the SR-71 was a piece of shit. All the pilots my parents knew who flew them said they were very poorly manufactured. Basically they would start to fall apart DURING FLIGHT. I don't know much beyond that. The pilots didn't like em cause they were shotty.
Now the F-117 "stealth fighter" is a much better piece of engineering. Solid structure with awesome stealth tech and lots o computing power (in fact without all the computers the plane would just go into a flat spin cause the odd shape doesn;t exactly make it ideal for flying by the stick). However the F designation was only put in their so that the Air Force could get the best pilots to fly em. If you put a B in there, then that makes the plane a bomber (which is what the F-117 really is, ever hear of one in a dog fight??) no "Top Gun" is ever going to fly a plane with a B designation, they want fighters. Dirty trick but it worked.
Of course there are gonna be some better stealth planes coming out (hopefully unmanned) which are gonna kick both these planes asses. No human inside to faint whne you hit 10 g's.
Yay project X!!!

Sexy technology is in the eye of the beholder. While I'd agree that I'd like to drive a SR71 to work everyday, I'm of the opinion that Leo Fenders introduction of the Precision Bass (1951) sexed up everyday life for millions of people all over the world.
It radically changed the music scene by allowing ease of transportation, and playability. Coupled with amplification, it allowed smaller band's to play larger venues. (a great selling point to club owners)
The strength it added to the rhythm section resulted in the birth of Rock'N'Roll.
The louder the bands got, the wilder the audiences got, leading to all kinds of great sin and debauchery. ( we all like some of that now and again)
In short: A good time to be had by all.
I've got two brothers that go nuts when ever there's an Air Show in town, so I understand where you're coming from. However, in my humble opinion, the Fender Precision got a lot more people laid than the SR-71.
As a sidebar to this post: I remember one time in the mid 70's jamming in this farmers field, just outside of Mount Hope during an airshow. We had set up directly in the flight path of most of the planes. We kicked back, and smoked some herbal jazz cigarettes. It was quite the rush having jets fly 50' above our heads, while we punched out some Pink Floydish grooves. The roar of the engines fit in to the music perfectly. For just a minute, I thought I was Roger Waters. It was way cool.

I groove on the SR-71, but I think I just might prefer the X-15.
Admittedly it is a rocket with wings and not an airplane, BUT: max speed of mach 6.7 and max altitude of 67 miles. Employing only 50 percent of the engine's thrust, the thing attained 75,000 feet and exceeded Mach 4.
X-15 makes you wet.
Bitch-assed ride
Besides, it has a nifty engine:

Fuck tha space shuttle, that's like a sperm whale in a hang glider.
---EDIT---
More info here
"...Mach 6.72 (4,520 mph) which remains, to this day, the highest speed ever attained in an airplane."
So what did you do at work today?
