I forgot to mention that I saw Doom last friday, which says a little something about the impact it had on me. I am familiar enough wtih Doom and the characters and plot and stuff, but not a gamer. I was at the movie with one, however, and he was about as impressed as I was, which isn't much. The acting was decent enough for what was expected of the actors, though The Rock's head-turn move that he does seems to have become some kind of uncontrollable tick. The effects were neat, and the monsters were scary enough except that instead of being demons, they made them genetically altered super-beings. That seems to be #1 on the list of disappointments to the people who are huge fans of the game. You'll find the part where it goes into 1st person POV to be either really cool or really gay. I personally thought it was gay. I guess all things considered, for this movie to be really likeable, you'd have to abandon bias and prejudice - in other words, you'd have to know nothing at all about the game. And if you're on this site reading this, I find that highly unlikely. So see it if you want, but you're probably fine waiting for the DVD.

Just saw this.
It really wasn't that bad.
It wasn't fantastic by any means, but after reading all the terrible reviews, I had my loins girded for Yet Another Worst Film Ever Made, and it's not in that category at all, I don't think. It's no Catwoman, anyway.
It was confused in parts, and senseless in parts, and cliched as fuk in parts, but overall it was mindlessly entertaining with cool sets. I can't figure out why they didn't just leave demons demons.
I certainly wouldn't buy the DVD, but I don't regret spending $8.50 to check it out on the big screen, and I'd download a DVD rip for the odd lazy Sunday two years from now.
P.S. The FPS scene was gay after the first 15 seconds.
EDIT: Doubled my estimate on re-watch from one to two years. Now with twice the numbers!

Fixed. It was an error I made with sahlgoode's textwar which was fuking up any thread he posted in (more than he does himself, I mean). Emailing me is probably the best way to bring this stuff to my attention.
