I need help please. I use NERO to burn audio cd's with no problems. Now I want to burn a movie from my computer to a DVD and can't get NERO to work right. Does anyone know of a program to do this? A free program?

It's the Stewie Griffin movie. I have it in .AVI and .MPEG. It was downloaded in .AVI originally.

Nero is great for cd, vcd, svcd and data. I have given up on trying to burn dvds with it. dvdSanta will convert and burn avi, its not freeware but you should be able to find a working copy to try.

Ok so here goes. I cannot burn to DVD's but can burn to cd's. Now looking at the front of the 'burner" it says "Compact disk ReWritable" and "DVD ROM" I am guessing that this POS is actually a cd burner and a dvd player, not a DVD burner. Can anyone help? I thought it was a dvd burner but it doesn't recognize blank DVD's.

not too sure, but i think you can burn most video formats to a CD-R as VCD (video cd). most dvd players, even the 2-3 year old ones will play VCD (sometimes it'll say it on the front of the dvd player). nero has a VCD option but im to lazy to test it out. |

If you bought your CD burner in the last few years, you can still burn DVDs with it even if it's not rated for it. Just put a piece of masking tape over the hole in the center of the blank DVD and hey presto.

This brings up a question ive been trying to remedy....i can use alcohol120 or nero to burn the dvds...its just that only half the fucking image will fit on the disc. most movies are 5+gigs but ive only seen 4.5g dvd burn discs. I have no idea how to seperate my copy of sin city into two sections. Can anyone help?

Before you buy that, there may well be something better. I've got the older NEC 2500A and have had zero problems.

I just bought a DVD burner for doing rented movies and had to find out. Use DVD Decrypter for ripping from the movie to your hard drive then and then use DVD Shrink to burn them to the DVD (it compresses the files so they'll fit onto a standard 4.7g DVD.)
They are both free and work great - they say there is a little reduction in quality with the compressed files, but not enough that I can detect (just like I can't detect quality reduction in MP3's.)

This is the one I bought a couple weeks ago.I love it.I have a Plextor 716A also,which is supposed to be top of the line but the NEC blows it away.
The reason it is better is because of the Plextor fucks up a lot when trying to read Dual Layer DVD`s.I updated to the latest firmware and it still has a problem reading them.

I got the Plextor 740A, and have had zero problems with dual-layer.
