I have just realized that I hate iTunes.
Are there any good media players out there that won't
a) chew up memory
b) fuck up my computer
c) download other useless crap that I don't need
I just need a solid little player to cycle through my mp3's, maybe mp4's, with the minimum amount of fuss and with good sound quality. I reject iTunes and windows media player.
The swarm must be able to suggest something. |

winamp is good if you just want to play music, just dont install the other plugins that allow it to play videos and other hogwash. |

There used to be one called Sonique or something, I dont have a copy of it anymore as I just use vanilla old MediaPlayer on my work machine at the mo, but I remember it used to be a cool small little player.

Foobar2000 uses very little memory. I got rid of Winamp because it kept reinstalling the stupid winamp agent (the background program that checks for updates) and it used too much memory. You have to dick around with Foobar a lot if you want it to look anything other than very plain, but there are sites that have instructions and themes. |

I hate the new WinAmp with a burning passion.
I tried Foobar and was excited until I realized it wasn't much better.
I tried VLC and was excited until I realized it wasn't much better.
Someone explain why I'm wrong, because I can't find shit I like.

I know I'll get shot for this But.....after trying Itunes and hating it I went back and found an OLD version of Musicmatch (8) that I like and seems to work well with my iPod too.

You are not wrong oh master of the swarm just misguided. If you want to use something different as an iPod manager go with Ephpod.
It has a shitload more features and you can upload and download music to you iPod till the cows come home. No DRM there. I think you can play music directly from the app but I don't remember. I just use the ipod to actually listen to the MUZAk.
Hope this helps. I do miss some of the more customizable MAc Apps that were out there.
When in doubt troll cnet.
Now as for an actual music player there's Ultraplayer, LittleFunny Mp3 Player, AV MP3 Player-Morpher Basic and Audacity. Now Audacity lets you screw around with the music, ie pitch effex etc, and so does the Morpher. It really depends on what you are looking for. There are alot of open source players out there that you can screw around with as well.
Your other option is to just use sharepod and play directly from you ipod

if you really want barebones, media player classic works.
i prefer winamp 2 or fubar for music though. but mpc rocks for vids
just to clarify: Media Player Classic is NOT Windows Media Player. it's loosly based on WMP 6.4 before they got crapalicious. but adds things like playlists and more options that are missing in 6.4.
