I am debating how much i should donate, i mean i am a sucker for when it comes to these things, but this time around, i really don't know how much i should donate.
What i can afford? Nothing, but i am sure i can trade a couple night of partying to help people get back on their feet.
But what draws the line being too little or too much??

My son & his mate just had their birthdays, and when I asked them what they wanted, they asked me to donate to Red Cross. That alone makes me feel like we raised him right. we sent 20 for each kid, plus another for ourselves. but we COULD, and that's the big difference.
Never send more than you can afford. guage it on what you can give up for a day (or three, or more) and take the amount you would've spent on those cigs, beers, or bong hits, and send that. each day you ignore your vices is a day's worth of food, or a family going home on a bus, or a coat for winter, etc.
If you end up without food, or have bills unpaid, its too much.
If all you have to give is love or time, call Red Cross, or Bunnies for Biscuits, or whoever, and volunteer. Its all good.
But doing nothing at all is suckey!

I donated $25 to the Red Cross for hurricane relief.
I also donated $30 to the BBP 5.2 for sobrierty relief.
It's the greater good, y0.

How much did you pay in taxes this year? You've already donated! What the hell are you thinking? If Bush can't mange money effectively, then DON'T VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN! Buying tanks and overspending YOUR dollars does not a good President make, my friend.

Mex: "How much did you pay in taxes this year? You've already donated! What the hell are you thinking?"
I paid a little under 10 grand last year in taxes including property taxes. Not One Cent went to the Red Cross. None of it went to save to abandoned animals. None of it will help find jobs for the periferal workers; the guy with a lawn route and a pick up, the guy who paints one kitchen, one bathroom at a time to eat, the guy who runs errands for all the neighbors at 5 bucks a trip who are elderly and can't go themselves, the ones who babysit, or clean houses, or do handyman work. None of them will see a cent of those taxes.
This is why I gave to the Red Cross. If you read the news, you will see that the true help came from the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, private donars (even walMart), and just plain folks. The taxes I paid are tangled up; that's no reason I can't help those in need directly.
By the way, Mex, since you are the one Suffering so Badly from Uncle Sam's Tax Burden, How Many Thousand Dollars of Tax Money did you pay? How much was your tax return? Did you get Money Back? I had to pay an additional $2700. How much did you pay? You sound like your life savings have been robbed of you. Did Sammy Poke your Piggy Bank?
In order to Pay All Those Taxes, I had to WORK MY ASS OFF! No body ever handed me anything, I worked 70-80 hours a week for 30 years, now i'm down to a mere 50 a week since my back injury and %80 disability. That's my little way of CONTRIBUTING TO SOCIETY! When you barf up a grand a month for taxes, then vote, and Bush is still there....
Well, shucks.
I do vote, every time, and I believe that it is one our saving graces. Voting is a wonderful thing, and should never be taken lightly. In the Late 60's, when I got to circulate petitions & march in front of Ronald Reagan's "Teargas Brigade" in favor of the 18 year old vote in Sacramento, I knew the only way the common man would ever survive the Industrial age was to retain his voice. If you are old enough to Die in a War, you should have the right to vote for or against those who decide that War.
This seems so basic now, that many have forgotton that their very lives are at stake. Mex is %100 correct in saying that the way to change is through the vote (although Bush can't run again; 3rd term law), and its up to ALL of us to change the world by PAYING ATTENTION to those running and to speak freely among your friends about what it all means.
This is a really fine place for people to tell you if you are full of shit or not. There are Good, Smart, Aware Human Beings here, and they will tell you the truth. They aren't always nice, but truth is told. I hope that we encourage others to speak their minds and Vote their hearts.
And Like Mex said: "If Bush can't mange money effectively, then DON'T VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN! Buying tanks and overspending YOUR dollars does not a good President make, my friend. "
Well said.

I'm sick of you. You don't even know your audience. Why don't you go argue with Loki, he'll talk to you about taxes.

Thankyou, at last somebody on this site agrees with me. Thanks again, Sir, for letting me know I'm not senile yet!
EDIT: No edit. Why the fuk don't quote tags work for you? Until they do, you should probably not quote 6-paragraph posts just to toss 'THX' in at the bottom.
