I've changed the Alpha/Beta subscriptions to recur monthly, not yearly. I think this'll make it less of a giant commitment for people and more of a try-it-and-see thing.
I've also changed the prices. Partly this is because $2.30 a month looks stupid, but I'd like some other criteria to determine whether a human can become an Alpha apart from "do you have X bucks". I can't think of too many that are easy to set up. I think in the future there may be some sort of voting pool to determine things. Dunno.
I also put in a bit of a legalese disclaimer. I know you guys know what's up, but I've had a couple bad experiences lately with people (well, one person) thinking that sending me $30 entitled him to all sorts of special treatment, and that's not how shit goes. After a long couple hours of AIM retardation, I refunded him his Alpha money and told him to go screw. Preferably, the kind of people levelling up in the future will be cool enough not to need that disclaimer, but I figure it's best if I make things clear "from the gecko" as they say in Jamaica.
A couple dozen of you faggots are worrying right now what this means to your own personal subscription. It doesn't mean anything. You're in as you are and your subscriptions won't cost you any more unless for some reason you decide to cancel your current one and resubscribe using the new button. That'd be wierd, but whatever.
For those of you just about to subscribe and now feeling disenfranchised: I think I've taken care of everyone who's been talking about levelling up lately. If you've just missed it and have feelings of bitterness, message me and I'll see about grandfathering you in at the old rate. If I don't even recognize your name, I'll give you some bad news and then we can weep together. (ProTip: It will be pretend weeping on my part.)

I actually like the level of commitment and that it takes or took a little effort to step up. I also understand coughing up $30 shouldn't give anyone the right be an ass or abuse their "symbol of powa".
{The way I see it} If you care about the swarm then level up, contribute, submit the best links you can, send Vas $$ for textwarz, post pics of fat chicks on runaway threads. *OR* If you care solely about yourself, your online ego, being a pain in the ass or spamming your bullshit site; please just log out, maybe browse the fresh ass links & then....I dunno, click and referring link and move on.
I'm a recent Alpha addition and its totally worth it IMO and I haven't even launched a textwar attack yet. |

So does this mean that we can still pay by the year? For people like me who make alot of money during certain months and just barely enough to live off for the rest of the year it's a pain to make sure that I have $5US in my bank account at the start of every month (I keep 2 accounts and transfer the money accross when I know that I need it). Or are we forced to pay by the month?

Keep the disclaimer!! I was one of those shitheads who thought I was "paying for a service" and not "donating". (Remember you offered to refund me my $30 cause "unicorns did not shoot out of my keyboard" or something to that effect, honestly I dunno what I was thinking.) Anyhew I'm still here cause I'm a quick learner *roll eyes*.
Wait I just actually read the disclaimer and it wasn't what I thought it was. Only stuff about not getting special treatment. May I suggest adding the pay vs donate thingy described above.
Anyways, it took me a while to figure out that you (VAS) weren't some wealthy dotcommerce d00d and that you do a fuckload of work for very little compensation, money not friends. And that this is a community not a place to pay and play. I've grown to love the community aspect more than all the play stuff, which is what I came for. I think a disclaimer lets people know that you don't just come in Vas's house and shit on his carpet and demand he clean it up with his tongue. Allthough he might?!?!?!?!?!
Oh and can I just pay the $60 upfront instead of month to month? I just like throwing money around, and I hate having capitol just siting there. THe OCD in me will eat my soul.

Yes, if you like, though it'll be a pain in the ass without the subscription to tell me when you're paid til. It's partly a bookkeeping measure for me. Also, you're already on a subscription track and don't have to resubscribe just to give me more money unless you just want to which is cool but ultimately also kind of odd.
