Um, no, actually, Rehnquist was a nixon appointee and one of the court's most conservative members. There is no way that a bush appointee replacing him can shift the balance. Its like when the red light-bulb on a christmas-tree string goes out and you replace it with another red bulb.
Nonetheless, I'm absolutely LOVING the panicked reaction everyone is having over this, like it is some sort of apocalypse. Its like a hilarious political version of chicken little. |

I beg to differ a little, since rehnquists voting history appeared to have a reasonable balance albeit conservative. If you remember, bush has an opportunity for two, and he will be in office til 2008. I am concerned that given the two openings, this will change the constitutional landscape for years to come. Thats my concern

Conservatives that voted in moderation,
We could wind up with two folks that only turn right, just a fear, hope it is wrong
Rehnquist upheld roe v wade, we may not have that shortly. It is a real fine line with seven people. No there is no panic the sky is falling shit. Most of these landmark cases came down to the wire, thats all.
Who knows , our civil liberties may be on trial next.

After the shit I have seen going on this past week in the south the only thing Bush can do to pull his ass out of a very deep BLACK hole is nominate a justice who respresents.
But WTF, we know this meat puppet is going to do whatever the fuck will put more bucks in his puckets in the long run.
