The whole Jewish money grubbing thing was actually started by the Catholic church about 1200 years ago.
The church passed very strict laws against christians being in businesses that involved working with cloth, leather, fur, gold, silver, gems or banking. The jews who were wandering all over europe at the time moved in to the vacuum and before anyone knew what hit them Europe was full of rich jews in high profile, high profit businesses.
That's where the word jewelery comes from. It originally meant anything made by jews.
Jews got their lock on being doctors, lawyers, scholars and scientists the same way. The church decided that reading and writing were not acceptable things for the Christian masses to learn. It didn't take long before the only people who could read and write were priests, monks and jews.
