What do you think about the movie?
Are you referring to the 33 year old epic saga of how a younger son rises to take over the family business, his father's paternalistic, but violent and illegal empire directed by Francis Ford Coppola starring that juicy hunk of delicious man meat Abe Vigoda?

I think he means the other one, with Don Knotts.

Its a great feil and or series of films. The third is meh but that's cause coppola got too much control by then.
What really made the film great were the actors, the story ane the editors.... NOT Coppola! He only got picked to direct cause he was Italian and BOB the golden boy needed someone to make the film seem like there were no anti italian sentiments. That last great montage where there at church and all the family enimies are getting whacked was not even coppola's idea it was the editors. I'm not saying coppola didn't have a hand in making it great, but that its greatness doesn't stream only from his prowess as a director. The only thing he really did to make it great was to really emphasise that it was a story about family, very important to the italians.
I actually prefer the second film myself. The history of the family is what I was most intrigued by. Plus you get deniro and pachino! I'm sort of a humanities fellow. Love the history channels and discovery. I'm not saying I'm going to haul off and start studying anthropology (no money in it) but its something that interests me.
Really if a film has a great tale to tell and or it is a great art piece like "Lost in Translation" or it simply has something to tell that is important I'll usually like it. I don't like boring actor vehicles like Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby. Really these tales could easily be told in a smaller medium like Theater or to a lesser extent TV. The cinematic, elements which make film great, are lacking in these sorts of "Ooooh look how great Sean Penn is" films. Where is the beautifull cinematography? I guess what I am trying to say is if the tale can be told without the need for the magic of cinema then keep it on the stage. Where drama belongs.

Acidburn: What do you think about the movie?
I think it deserves its place as one of the top 100 movies of all time, or whatever that thing is.
I like #2 better too. The young Vito Corleone, etc.
I haven't seen them in a while, but isn't it #3 where everything goes all disco-seventies? Don't like that so much.

I'd love to see a fourth installment with Andy Garcia as the new Godfather.

HUG FOR YOU
